$99 NRS offered at Sonoma!

Guys & Gals, this deal isn’t getting the attention it deserves. I did the $99 deal last year mainly because I had some interest in racing and it was cheaper than doing a track day. Seriously when can you do a Sonoma track day for $99 … on a weekend no less! Now this isn’t a track day and shouldn’t be thought of as one but it’s still track time and if you have any notions of trying racing, this is the cheapest it’ll get for you.

I can’t do justice to the feeling you’ll experience during and after your first race. It’s an adrenaline rush I’ve only experienced while bungee jumping. I was totally blown away by the ‘high’ I was on after finishing my first race. Track days are fun but they don’t bring anywhere near the same level of excitement.

This deal is so good that it has caused some controversy and isn’t actively being promoted by those behind it hence this post to get it some publicity.

For each person that uses me as a referral and I receive credit for, I'll donate $20 to BARF.

You’ve got 2 weeks to get your bike ready. If you have Tech questions, post up in the BARF AFM section

I'm fairly new to NorCal, are there local places will will rent races bikes? I've always wanted to race a ninja 250. :)

Edit:
Crap, never mind, I'll be out of town for a wedding that weekend. I guess my racing career has already ended, haha.

Yes you can rent 250's to race. I don't know of the availability but Feel Like a Pro rents race bikes and I think he's been a supporter of past $99 NRS specials. I haven't used them personally but they have a long row of canopies setup and it would be a great way to meet other 250 racers. It looks like a pretty sweet deal, just show up and they take care of you.

You can always go the Feel Like A Pro route for that weekend, or you could rent one of the Gixxer 450 Triples from Dave Moss/Dave Wallis. I did that at Sonoma Round 2, and loved racing the bike so much I bought it!!
There is nothing like the feeling of sitting on the grid, staring up at the tower, just waiting for that flash of green... hearing the thunderous roar of the bikes all around you as they launch... watching them weaving in and out as they sift themselves out racing madly into Turn 1... and when you finish your race, the Cornerworkers are cheering and clapping for YOU... and you feel like you just won Moto GP... even if you're dead last!!
Coolest feeling EVAR!!
Not to mention the instant street cred from having an AFM gear tech sticker on the back of your helmet! :teeth
I'll be helping Dave teach the clas. If you've got questions, post 'em up, or shoot me a PM!
And no, you do NOT have to be fast. We want consistent, predictable and safe! :)

You've still got time to get your bike prepped... mine's crashed and not running, but I'm still planning on racing at Sonoma! :teeth

In the ad is says "School". I see a lot of Racing mentioned here. A lil confused...so is it racing or schooling? Details on what time to what time, and the schooling & racing part please......

Thanks!

All new racers are required to take the new racer school before getting their race license ...it's done first thing in the morning and involves about an hour of classroom ...then on track evaluation. After that you can ride the practice sessions which end around 3:00, then it's race time...There's usually 4 different races on Sat... (each race usually has multiple classes with there own seperate starts). You can race Sunday if you meet the qualifying time cut off (see rule book), but you'll have to pay the entry on those races (still a great deal!)

I'm going to take advantage of the offer and take my DRZ out there. My wife has been racing all year and I'm tired of her having all the fun!

This offer is just too good to pass up:thumbup

I am still a bit confused. One does the classroom, check. They take a practice session away from the rest of AFM and do ONE 10min? 20min? 2hr? evaluation. And then, unlike the past, you can race the same day?

They have 5 practice groups broken up by your previously recorded race times. Group 1 is the slowest and Group 5 is the fastest. NRS students ride in group 1 since they don't have any established times. Each session is about 15 minutes and each group gets 5 (I think) sessions. The NRS students will miss the 1st session because they'll be in class. You should do the rest of the sessions and it's not just 1 classroom session, you're in class between the on-track sessions. Your evaluation takes place during one of your scheduled practice sessions.

They also squeeze in 2 practice race starts for the NRS students after the practice sessions so you get some practice starts before your Clubman race. It's a pretty full day between the classroom sessions, practice, and your race. Yes, you race your Clubman race the same day. If you meet the cutoff times during your Clubman race, you can then race on Sunday in the regular Novice races (you need to pay for those races).

I can see how that could be confusing. Like Mike said, the school is to get your race license. It's not a riding school with riding instruction or coaching.

Don't think of the New Racers School (NRS) as a "school". It's not a riding school where you go to improve your skills. It's just a certification program you must complete before you are allowed to obtain a racing license. It's called a school because they teach you everything you need to know about how to be safe while racing against others.

Along with flags, what they mean, what they mean to you as a rider, how starts will take place, what to do when you have a mechanical, or what to do when you crash.

Well, that is pretty righteous. I might consider reapplying. The old bike is down about 30 hp from new. But heck, all it needs is some chicken wire in the empty holes and she's good to go. I would be too pooped to do Sunday, I think. :laughing
