6/23 Laguna Seca Shut Down

I was at the TrackDaz Laguna Seca event on Friday 6/26. Halfway through the second session after lunch they pulled the ambulance and shut down the track with a red flag halfway through a session. Then everyone packed up and left. There was no announcement and they aren't responding to my email. The rumor around the paddock was it’s because someone wasn’t wearing a mask. From my perspective I saw amazing adherence to the “masks at all times rule”. Also, it was my understanding they’d be kicking out those who didn’t wear masks not shut down the entire event. Perhaps there was another reason it was shut down?

Anyone have any more info?

I was on the track when that happened. People werent wearing their masks. Thry had the laguna seca people driving around telling people to put their masks on. I think they got tired of it and just shut it down. Sucked since we had 2 sessions left. The people i saw complaining saying it was bullishit. Were not wearing their masks. Lol.
I have my july 3rd laguna already paid for and cant get my money back. Im still going but i cant control what other people do. Some people just dont want to listen and spoil it for the rest of us.
So just know if you goto laguna u got sound and mask restrictions. Just my observations....

sorry you guys got some sessions scratched.

Hard lesson from Laguna. Comply or git.

Hope compliance gives you guys full days going forward.

Was this confirmed it was over not wearing masks? Just asking because I have a PTT date in August. Michael runs a good show and will make it clear to everyone but I am curious to see if this truly was the reason it was shut down. Were they setting an example for future events?

Have you heard from the provider yet?

It was shut down because some groups weren't wearing masks. When asked to put them on they'd take them right back off again after the enforcers were out of sight. Instead of asking those groups to leave they chose to shut down the entire track day.

Apparently Laguna Seca will not reimburse TrackDaz who will not reimburse participants for the lost track time. Dustin at TrackDaz doesn't seem interested at all in fighting Laguna Seca on behalf of his customers and says he can't afford to reimburse us.

Personally I feel that I paid for a service and that was not provided and I don't feel everything was done that could be done. They decided to take the "fuck ALL of you" route instead of dealing with a couple of bad eggs. I personally would not do another Trackday at Laguna Seca. I took a day off from work and paid $375 for the day. My dad drove in from Texas. Things can happen at Trackdays that cut into track time but this was unnecessary.

Michael is a good guy and I'm a big fan of PTT but I don't think he'd have control over this. There is a high probability any track day provider going here is just going to end up with a lot of angry customers and it sounds like they can't afford to refund people nor fight Laguna Seca mgmt.

Good luck! Maybe the gods will shine on you and perhaps you could speak up at the riders meeting to help stress that people should be respectful of the mask rule for the benefit of everyone regardless of personal beliefs/pride/'merica or whatever other reasons people have for being so opposed to masks.

Thanks for the update. That is totally shitty but sounds about par for the course with Laguna.

It sounds like a "mask compliance clause" will need to be written into every track day sign-up process (if it isn't already) for the foreseeable future. That would cover the track day providers.

It is for some Orgs. 2WTD has four waivers now, a pain in the ass for our participants but we feel that it covers!

Dang sorry to hear Zaphod. Don't be too mad at the provider. I'm sure they wanted to put on a good event. It all comes down to the asshats that are so against a mask.

Those asshats should be put on shared list with all trackway providers and banned outright. It's not that big a deal to wear masks for everyone's safety. Infections are actually on rise again after Memorial Day festivities.

omfg it is an outdoor event...force the masks indoors if you have to go inside but otherwise you can keep six feet apart and it's safe

treating like it's being held inside with recirculating air or something...

i wanted to ride laguna...now i won't

im sure we'd be correct in guessing the non-compliant attendees weren't doing that either.

the CA mask regs are pretty straight forward. masks are required when outdoors if you cant stay 6ft apart.

bummer...particularly since throwing a mask on, whether you agree with them or not, seems pretty simple.

This is how I see it as well. I don't like wearing a mask as much as the next guy, but I really don't see how it's worth flipping out over. Pretty minor inconvenience in my opinion.

Right? Went to Costco pharmacy the other day. They've been letting me just wear my helmet for the past few months. door person stopped me said nope not good enough. Took the few minutes to take off helmet and use the mask they gave me, went on my way. No drama, no federal case, no debate club, no hissy fit, no braveheart speech.

Way simple.. if you can't do it.. then stay home like smash has said he will.
Screwing it up for everyone else is shitty.
