Nice, Chuck! Damn, I need to not drink on Friday and ride less on Saturday next year.

Or just man up and stay up past your bedtime :twofinger

I drank like a fish on Friday and rode all day (damn you, Kurt! :teeth) on Saturday. Start your training early next year. :thumbup

Noob in Training
But wait, there IS a little more, a few crumbs n nuggets

OK I'll play...I do have just a few more...just the Sunday ride back home pics...really...well we DID take the time to engage in some proper detourage...

But yep, we did so much riding there just wasn't much picture-taking time.

Oh the pain, of these serious "quality problems", once again. :chuci

It was still coolish, but starting to heat up as we left Hawthorne. We started out heading north on 95, and in the morning light the views along Walker Lake were simply gorgeous, the patterns in the rocks, the calm water, and the flocks of birds were amazing. Butch joined us for a few miles somewhere along that section. The road then leaves the lake and heads west towards the mountains and in Yerington we stopped to gas up.

Butch, Please! and Steve comparing notes...

The landscape out there feels so spread out and just ... VAST. Extreme vastness. Even the towns, which in comparison to the open ranges and wildlands are downright bustling...they still have a kind of lonely, solitudinous feeling. I might have made that word up. And it might not be true at all for the actual inhabitants. This of course, coming from a mostly urban chick.

Steven giving Ross some advice on how to get your plastic accepted at these newfangled on-the-pump machines. :laughing There was some silly voodoo going on with PlaneGray's card that weekend. Loving Kurt's look - MadBro Action Figure?

My horn musta gotten loaded up with grit/dust/sand in the wacky 50 mile offroad excursion the afternoon before (no honking, just a little humming was all that it would do) but I checked and double checked and the front (rock-parting) rim was still unscathed. So with the clogged-up horn being the only causalty she suffered in that gravel assault ... and the dusty splatter remains really weren't so bad ... I hafta admit, the 599 is such a great all-purpose machine. (Shameless promoting, huh? I can do that in my own post... :teeth)

It's good to love your bike, and I know most of you totally understand these little love affairs we're afflicted with. She's just so cute too!

After Yerington, we headed south (339? 208?) and west through ranch country, it is just beautiful, reminded me of an interesting chapter in my life many years ago living the farm life in Iowa. Not far from Yerington in the Mason Valley the fall harvest was underway and we came across field after field with giant onions being bagged up into their burlap sacks. Gotta respect the folks and families working out there in these fields so that we can enjoy our animal-style burgers just the way we like em. The interwebs do verify that indeed the region is dubbed the "Onion Capital of the West" -- it looked pretty much like this ...

We passed by Topaz Lake then headed west on 89 up into the high country, Monitor Pass, then SW on the 4 and over Ebbetts Pass. We came across another BARF group at a rather cozy gas stop along the 4 (near Arnold? Avery? and how many times did I hafta move my bike so cars could get inj n out? :blush). This is where Kurt got that look of mischief in his eyes and probed for who wanted to get home, and who wanted to hit some goaty delights... Well duhhhh...we're here now ya know, we came to ride, and what sort of silly question was this anyway.

Hellllllyeahhhhhhh baby -- are you kidding!? Richmond joined us, a couple others said no thanks, and off we headed.

Kurt had some serious Sierra Gold treasure in store for us. Such the right choice -- if there ever was even a question.

Roughly - we took Hiway 4 > Avery-Sheep Ranch Rd > Jesus Maria Road. Oh my, we bucked and played in there chasing each other for a goooood loooong bumpity-assed time. I was in goat heaven! So awesome and with extra awesomesauce on the side. In a big frosty bottomless gold-plated pitcher.

Kinda like this, an actual slice of the real deal ... pure Cali heaven right there ... this is just one teeny sliver of a slice, but of course there were soooo many more helpings to be savored...and savor we did. :drool

^ Now, how could anyone ever say no to that? I have no idea, really I just don't get it. Ya know, this passionate ;-) guy once wrote about it...and yes, Pilgrimage is an appropriate word. And he actually stopped to take pics. We just romped thru full steam ahead. If you want a closer look, see a taste of the goodness here:

Grinning and panting, finally we came to the end of that road of intense yumminess.
See the smile it produced Rich's face? Now, that looks like a happy guy to me.

Knowing smiles know.
We all agreed, oh hell yeah, that was the bomb-diggety!

We continued our elevation drop, and took a lovely backroadsy flavored route through the rolling hilly oak grasslands, enjoying more pretty vistas, warm breezes, and the satisfaction of having worked that weekend to the bone.

DAMN - that was fun.

...Wait, how long until we go back to Hawthorne?
O-M-G ... well I'll try get a grip and hang in there. A little longer.

Bye for now! :wave
