2007 GSXR 750 - Pillion seat/trunk latch installation issues

Streeting my track bike with bodywork that came with the bike. I"m not sure how the trunk/pillion/rear seat latch is supposed to mount up - here are some photos:

Cable mounts to slot on rear cowling that has the key bracket, other end to the latch. There's just so much freeplay in the whole cable/sheath that the cable doesn't actuate within.

Parts fiche doesn't indicate a bracket - could someone snap a picture for me of theirs so I can see what it is supposed to bolt down to?

Is the sheath not secured on each end? It shouldn't need to be secured in the middle at all. The cable itself is the only part that needs to move.

If it's flopping, that would imply it's not held down at one, or both, ends, and the sheath is moving, rather than the cable itself.

Yeah I think that's the problem, it's not fixed in space on the bodywork side... not sure how it's supposed to mount based on the bracket that's there, doesnt' seem to have a place that could mount it easily...

Hence me asking for a photo and hopefully I could get an idea.

It shouldn't matter what the middle portion, the sheath, is doing or attached to in the middle so long as it's fixed on each end. It's clear that it's fixed from the second pic you posted; is the other end attached as well? If not that's your problem.
