So, basically I have an sv that won't seem to catch. I've gotten it tO catch a few times with a ruff idle the. It dies. I removed the carbs and fully disassembled and cleaned them. Reinstalled, and got sputtering etc. I believe it is getting a spark because it has caught and run a few times. It was stored for about 8 months improperly, not by me..

check plugs, and check low voltage coil connection on front coil. pull both plugs and check the spark holding them against the frame. Pull the fuel line where it goes to the carbs and crank the motor over and see if gas spurts out hard. Do all this and come back.

If you reinstalled the carbs did you reconnect the vacumn line to the fuel tank petcock? Pull the fuel line from the petcock to the fuel pump on the frame loose at the fuel pump. Pull the vacumn line to the petcock loose and SUCK on it. Gas should flow from petcock line. You are not getting gas most likely. Those petcocks do go bad after sitting and need cleaning.

The pump is on the right side of the bike right?

If youre getting fuel to the carb, the pilots are probably still clogged. You should be able to see a clear edged circle of light when you look thru it.

Did a very extensive cleaning, completely dissasembled and dipped the carbs in carb dip for an hour each, highly doubt they are clogged anymore. I'm inclined to suspect fuel delivery system but I'm not versed in narrowing it down..

Did you pull the pilot and main jets and check them for obstruction?

petcock on the left has vacumn hose, fuel pump on the right has vacumn hose as well.

^^^ What he says. Run a wire through every tiny hole in every jet, otherwise you haven't really cleaned them. You would be amazed at how horrible a bike can run with small amounts of grime changing orifice diameter of your jets. Make sure your tank is clean too.

You said orifice..

This wire size is a small guitar E string... fits most every jet except for Mikuni 32.5..

A dirty deliverey system can drive you nuts. No matter how much you clean it will get clogged again. Go through the whole system, may as well replace the hoses while your at it, and add a cheap in line plastic filter where you can see it and monitor particle accumulation.

If it is catching, you could have good spark on 1 cylinder and not the other. More likely a fuel issue, but spark is very quick and easy to check for VS disassembling a carb.
