Rookie My A$$!
SOLD!!!!! Mods, please delete this thread.
EDIT 8/11/15: I had it smogged today, and it passed with very low numbers. Typical quality engineered Mercedes engine. ///
I have owned this classic luxury 1998 Mercedes Benz E430 for about 5 years. I am selling only because I just bought a newer E350. It is in very good shape, and drives quiet, smooth and powerfully with its 4.3 liter V-8 engine and automatic transmission. The black leather interior is in near perfect shape, nicely set off by the walnut wood grain accents on the dash, console and doors. The body is bright silver, in very good shape with only very minor dings and scratches. The paint is starting to show its age, however, and the clearcoat is beginning to fog and fail at the more exposed locations. As the pictures show, it still looks good when washed and polished. More details:
154,211 miles
Nice 5 spoke 17” rims, with very good tires.
Brake pads replaced about a year ago, stops straight and true. I also replaced all 4 shock absorbers.
Aftermarket stereo radio/CD player that was probably state of the art 15-20 years ago. (There is no antenna, so the AM radio does not play clearly; FM works fine, as does the CD player). There is no aux input, but the buyer could easily get this done, or replace the entire stereo unit with something more modern.
Everything works, with the following exceptions: Air conditioning stopped working about a year ago (not sure what is the issue – I just decided to live with it rather than get it fixed). There is a crack in the windshield from a rock which hit the lower corner a few months ago (I have ignored this, but I am told you can have the windshield replaced for $200 to $300 by various mobile techs that advertise on craigslist). The “SRS” light is on because I accidently disconnected the airbag when I was fixing the horn button (I reconnected the airbag, but the SRS light can only be reset by someone with the Mercedes code reader/computer).
I will have it smogged this week. It has always passed with very low emission numbers. Also, I had two of the catalytic converters replaced with new California legal units about two years ago when the old ones started to rattle.
Except for the smog test this sale is AS IS, cash for the full sale price. I have clean clear title papers in my name ready to sign over to the new owner.
The pictures you see are accurate, taken early August 2015. (Note that cars always look better in the pictures than in real life. Not sure why that is.)
Come look it over, take it for a drive, and check it out. I live in Marin, and work in SF 3 days per week.
PRICE $4399, LESS 10% FOR BARF COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
NO SCAMMERS! NO SALES AGENTS! Potential buyers ONLY!
