100 Item Challenge

Mrs. is going through the whole house, top to garage, getting rid of things we don't use. Some is going to family and friends (if they want it), some to secondhand stores, a bit right to the dump.

It is amazing how much crap we have inadvertently built up. Things that other people can use.

Around a year ago we purged our household of lifestyle gear we are no longer able to use. Got a lovely pic of a friend's partner sporting a bespoke latex dress that was made for Mrs. out at a party. Reduce, reuse, recycle at its finest. :teeth

Minimalism is cool, but it's funny how people group things together to make them one thing in their list of a hundred items. Take it a step further and I only have one item; my apn kit.

We did the same during the Santa Rosa fires. Packed all the shit up that we cared about and then went through everything that was left. Sorted and disposed of a big pile of stuff.

I'm too lazy. I'll wait till I die and the family can sort through the shit.
Been there done that with a ton of my grandfather's stuff.

To my mother's consternation I held an epic garage sale. A fire sale, practically (and literally) giving things away.

We only made around $500 but the smiles and hugs and handshakes were worth it. :teeth

(A displaced Haitian got all my grandfather's edgers, blowers, and other lawn implements for around $25. He founded a lawn care business.)

I love Da Whores
I purged a bunch of stuff after the ex moved out 3 years ago. I love an uncluttered house. I will purge more as Retirement gets closer.
OTOH, the Garage is off limits to purging! :x

My goal for a house is to have a big enough garage to fit both cars AND bikes...and still have room left over for a workbench, tools, storage, etc. One of my favorite garages I've seen was on a BMW forum. Guy lives in Australia, but...check this out:

Sorry for the pic spam. Dude has the whole garage wired up for AC / fans, an air compressor completely separated from the house and noise isolated that he can turn on by remote because everything is smart-home wired as well, and the hose reel is hidden inside one of the cabinets too. I figure that even if most of us don't have a garage big enough for all of it, he had a lot of good ideas in the design that we can integrate piece by piece into our much smaller bay area garages.

edit - point being, to keep the thread on topic, that I'd say this level of meticulous organization can also help out a lot with keeping things clutter-free once you purge.

I hate that guy ;)

I'm waiting till I give the dog back to do a deeper garage clean. I use it for storage and growing vs. a car which I don't own.

As I get older I try and get rid of more stuff than I acquire.

:laughing He initially just posted a pic of the M4 he bought in the garage to show off his new car, and like 90% of the replies were "yeah yeah nice but fuck the car, show us more of your garage!"

I always wonder what crazy shit I could do with this house if I had a lot of money and didn't want to just buy a bigger place. Paint the floor, built in storage cabinets, hanging storage, tool wall etc.
