06 07 GSXR 600/750 Swingarm Swap to 1000?

Before thinking that I'm trying to put a 240 tire on or what not, here's a little background info. I bought my 07 GSXR 750 about a month ago and since then noticed the tabs for the swingarm spools were missing, a bolt that supported the Yoshi slip-on gouged the swingarm, and in general isn't in the best condition. I also liked how a friend's 600RR (my previous bike as well) handled with a 6" wide rear wheel with a 190/55 tire. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be GSXR 1000 wheel that would fit into the 06-07 GSXR 600/750 swingarm. But although coming to that conclusion, I could not conclude whether or not the swingarm from a GSXR 1000 (07-08 for example) will bolt onto my frame. Will this work? What other parts would I have to change? I know I could just change my current swingarm to that from another 600/750, but figured if I could "swing" it with little to no trouble to accommodate the 6" wide 1000 wheel, I'd go ahead.

could not conclude hmmm ?

pretty sure you'll also have to add a NOS kit

or two :ride

After you :)

I meant I've found that I couldn't put the GSXR 1000 wheel wheel into my current swingarm, but couldn't find for sure if that 1000 swingarm would fit into the 600/750 frame.

The 190s will fit fine on a GSXR 600 wheel. That's all I used on mine. Most of them are MADE for 600s.

BTW get the 180/60 if you want the latest best for a 600 (5.5" rim), and a 6" wheel on a GSXR 600 is a waste.

I know a 190/55 will fit OK on my 5.5"... but if I end up changing the swingarm, I'd like to know if the 07-08, or maybe the 05-06, GSXR 1000 swingarm would bolt up.

a good place to start answering this question is looking on your favorite online parts resource to see if the swing arm pivot shaft bearings are approximately the same.

Go to a motorcycle wrecking yard that specializes in Sport bikes, and ask them to measure the width of the swingarms for a 600 and 1000, and if they are the same width, I'd be willing to bet the pivot size is the same. But check that also while you are at it. Gotmotoparts in Grover Beach has some swingarms sitting there, I know one of them is a GSXR1000 (it's mine) swing arm, and I'm sure he's got some 600 swingers there, too. Buy that one from him, it's there on consignment, and I get paid too.

I love how you guys have downsized OP's 750 to a 600. :laughing

Xtian, I tried a 190 on my 600 a few years back. It really didn't add anything. Not even grip. (On the street at least) The profile of the tire (manufacturer to manufacturer) is going to affect handling more than putting a fatter tire on. (Assuming the same brand and model of tire)

I'll also point out that the 190's are usually heavier (more unsprung weight) and more expensive than the 180's. Have you taken the 750 to a really good suspension guy and had it set up? That'll make more of a difference than fiddling about with tire widths. :thumbup

Thanks Stormdragon for your input. I actually just put on a 190/55 Pirelli Supercorsa on my stock wheels. It's the first time I've put anything besides Michelin Pilot Powers on any of my street bikes I've owned--and I'm not sure I'm liking it. The bike feels 100lbs heavier and the steering feels like the front tire is nearly flat [regardless if I run 28psi or 36psi] compared to my previous tires. Also, I'd need to re-spring my forks to get my suspension any more ideal. :ride

Now see. I tried a set of Pilot Powers on my 600 once. Once. Hated them. Bike felt like it was trying to fall over in every turn. They have a more V shaped profile than what I ended up liking on my bike. I liked the Conti Road Attacks, and the Pirelli Angels. Different strokes, and all that.

GSXR 750 and 600 have same chassis, same motor mounts, same brakes, same wheels and same swingarm. Forks, ECU and FI are different.

and the engine :party

Yes, and the forks are a different color. However we are not talking about this. The issue is about the swingarm and wheel width. Those are identical.

FWIW, many a mech has stuck a 750 motor in a 600 chassis. It's not much of a job.
