how embarrassing would it be for some squid pilot on a gixxer/ninja to be shadowed by a guy on a scooter? :laughing
floorboards all scraped to shit, lightening holes in every panel, and a hello kitty sticker on the fender. :rofl

My album, including a photo of Busy Little Shop's Larry in front of the BMW HP4. An orange in the sea of white and blue. :teeth

(Sorry, they're all on BMW booth, since I was stuck there all weekend working)

Connie, must had missed you. You probably stopped by during your lunch... and I was at my lunch time too. Glad you like the HP4. :)

I liked the BMW scooter I sat on!~

I got to ride the 650GT and was very impressed with its performance. Yup! Aside from the scooter's lean back feet forward easy twist and go, that thing will scoot in a hurry and not shy leaning through corners. I got used to replacing engine/compression braking with a small pull on the rear brake really quick... then it was carving time. All of this while showing 50-80 MPG on the display.

Now I'm thinking... do I even need a sport touring bike anymore? :laughing

I don't shadow, I just pass them, except the guy that hung way off in a slow corner, I almost ran over his ass.

Bummed I didn't get to see you... but I sat on the HP4 for a good 15 minutes, and chatted with a really nice BMW guy who was working the booth... he passed along some good technical information, and we laughed about the awesomest bike having heated hand grips stock... :laughing

I really had so much fun yesterday... I was happy and grinning all day long there. Anyone who thinks it sucked is just a grumpypants. Was it as big as it was in the past? No. But, just like in other areas of life, some things are bigger than others... and just because it's not HUGE doesn't mean it won't rock your socks right off! ;)
Jes' sayin'...

Bitch and whine..? I've been going every year (that I'm home) and spread the word around. I even pass out the $2 off coupons with the dates and address to as many people as I can and spread the word around. But let's get real here... IT FUCKING SUCKED..! And it's going to suck even more in the next few years. Can you say Infineon, I mean Sonoma Raceway and AMA..? :rolleyes

And how much longer is our economy supposed to stay "shitty" for..? Oh yeah, let's raise taxes, that'll fix things..! :nchantr

I think vehicles in general (cars, bikes) are declining in popularity among Generation Y. Seriously, I have read articles saying that GenY puts less value on vehicle ownership than prior generations did at their age. And that's a bad thing for motorcycle manufacturers.

Whether or not that's part of the reason why this show has declined, I dunno, but..........I don't think you'll ever see the Big Four updating their sportbikes every 2 years anymore, like they used to before the recession.

I agree. I remember 15 years ago, the young folks cleaning and detailing their cars. Going to car shows, bike shows and what not. Folks left and right working after school at the mall, the super market, whatever, just to keep that car/bike looking like new. :cool

Now it's all about the iPad, cute kittens and saving baby Panda..! :facepalm

Useful idiot
The DR has always had an oil cooler (at least since 2005 - my bike).

I haven't looked at the DR650 in awhile. Thanks for the correction. I would definitely pipe-in a bypass, so I wouldn't be hosed if I crashed and damaged it.

As for the scooter passing a sportbike thing, I have the next best thing: Last week on my way back towards Cordelia *$ from Knoxville/Berryessa, I caught and passed an R1. I wasn't pushing hard and I was on a 20 year old 250 with about 16-18 horsepower and knobbies front and rear. Good times. :nchantr

exploring!
I like the upright position and luggage options. Seems like a nice bike for long trips and that it would do well on smooth blm or forest service roads.

Yeah, it does really well on long trips, and makes a decent commuter, as well. I'm piling the miles on mine, for sure. It's been a really good bike.

Man behaving bikely...
In 47 years I've been lucky to have been a part of the rise of dirt bike era and
then the rise of sport bike era... but now the industry is in a slump... I still
like to go to these events for the people... they charge me up so I still feel
optimistic and like the future is still bright... in 2048 I will hit 100... and what
excites me the most is not the magic number but getting to see the 2048 bikes...
