Impressive.
I don't have the mechanical talent to work on my bicycle! :laughing
Mikey's not wrong though: that having someone else to work on your stuff can become cost prohibitive. Shame we got rid of auto shop/ etc in high school programs. Of course the cars people are going to learn to work on will be relics soon.
The newer stuff is actually easier to work on. Th diagnosing is usually done for you, and scan tools are getting cheaper.

Don't want to work on it or can't? Gotta pay someone.
Depends.. I've been watching some videos about fixing Audi's and it's VERY complicated. Like, drop the motor to change a couple filter screens kind of complicated.
So a few months back one of my rear liftgate struts was leaking so I replaced them.
So now the rear liftgate will only go up 75% of the way because it needs to be reset using a dealer computer. Total BS.
I am learning about "new stuff". Thanks for the contribution. :thumbup
Yes, I agree--I don't understand why people--like in the OP--with a Merc E400 can't pay $7000 for two headlights, why are they owning it then. :dunno
(additionally Merc E400 owner-repairmen .. kinda escapes my mind right now!)
it's possible they were referring to two different types of "new stuff", 98 to 2010 probably easier but 2010+ .. worse???
depends on if she's still in the warrant period...
