Workshop homage to Barf Baja....

Darwin's exception
Recently picked up a new to me modern dual sport desert bike. More on that when I’m done sorting and a modifying it to my tastes/needs/wants at a later date.

In the interim, been cleaning up the most recent desert ride, the XR400r, in preparation for selling it. End of an era for me on an XR that included some great memories and whole lot of new folks I proudly call friends.

Baja is hardly over for me, just a hiatus this winter until the world returns to some normalcy. Meanwhile, I realized I have a whole lot old parts and stickers from the various group Barf Baja trips these past 6 years. What better use for them than to put something on my workshops wall to remember both the XR era and the fantastic trips I’ve enjoyed these past 6 years.

Also a fantastic use of SFMC members Kalle and Johns killer plates made for us in 2020.

Hopefully I can remember everyone’s name that has joined us and made those memories with me. In no particular order and correct/forgive me if someone was unintentionally left off.

We had our Baja Barf Banquet at the Lanesplitter tonight (03/14/2017). CJ brought the awards.

Nice CJ! Very cool! Does this mean you found the missing headlight shroud? :laughing

I am becoming a recycling arTEIST duruing covid. :laughing :twofinger

No, it was headlight assembly and rubber straps I never found. Sure they went with the TLR spare parts along with the other Baja Designs shroud, a white one. Ron's oem XR650r light looks good on the XR now. The XR is cleaning up nicely.. kinda almost want to keep it. But need to make room.

John, your pic link is broken. Just an FYI. And make sure to tell Kalle the license plate is going to good use!

Some good pics from 2019

Will aka Slowpez stuck on the beach and an army of barfers pulling the tanker out.

Crack is whack or Baja AGATT?

Disquised Tom's (aka anytwowilldo) new to him KTM as a Honda to avoid the Baja KTM vultures. It was in his best interest we told him....

The aftermath of my highside with cowboy hat and flip flops thrown in various directions. It was ouir flip flop flat track session on Scorpion Bay's beach. Daniel aka 1962iia decided it was payback time doing a sandy burn out covering and inserting sand into every orfice of the bike and me to add insult moments later. I deserved it.....

How many barfers does it take to change a lightbulb was never asked.....

Lovin it! I needed some Baja pics to cheer me up today. The flip flop beach run was one of the best things we ever did in Baja. I haven’t laughed like that in a long time. Where is the drone video?

will do! :thumbup

Kalle has his pics hosted on some KLR-webhosting service that throttles his downloads ... his pics should be back soon. :laughing:angel

Thanks for putting this together CJ! We have had so many good times in Baja. I can't wait until we can go back.

This thread makes me sad that I never went, but also makes me happy to see Baja in all her glory, and BARF'ers enjoying all she has to offer! :thumbup

hey WoodsChick, think you and Eric would enjoy Baja someday. Certainly the Guadalupe Canyon hot springs, anyway ... :ride

we managed to find the warm spring at Mission San Borja in 2017:

... there is a warm spring at
Mission San Borja ... Kalle took a dip ... I was too shy
to get all "Santa Cruz style"
in front of Dmitriy ... :laughing

Bay of LA, 2017 BARF Baja ...

We've both been to Baja before and loved it! My first trip down there was in 1987, and Eric and I were last there in 2009. We've never made it to Guadalupe Canyon, though...which is rather surprising :laughing

I'd love to take a few weeks and ride all the way to the bottom. I have lifetime employee benefits at Hyatts and we have a few down there so maybe ride/camp on the way to Cabo, spend a few days in the lap of luxury, then ride/camp our way back up :ride

I probably knew you guys had been there ... 1987 would’ve been cool, wish I’d gotten my act together to have gone back then.

pretty confident I’ve never seen a WoodsChick Baja ride report, though. :laughing:gsxrgrl

would like to ride all the way down too, someday ... always seem to run out of time around Loreto ... :toothless

one of the parts of BARF Baja I enjoyed where the four or five monthly pizza planning parties at Lane Splitters in Berkeley, before each annual trip ... been missing those this fall. :)

I wanted to at least go to the meetings at Lane Splitters but it seems life has gotten complicated and busy for us these last few years :(

1987 was fun! Here I am throwing the BARf salute a full 18 years before joining!
I'd just gotten that Pink Floyd T-Shirt at their Momentary Lapse of Reason show in Oakland a few weeks before...

And you're absolutely right about no Baja ride report! :wow And I just realized I never did one for my 55th birthday either! You remember...the one where it took us 36 hours and 2 sets of snow chains to get to Benton Hot Springs :laughing I am planning on doing that when I'm home recuperating after surgery...hopefully soon!

And I'll post a photo from Baja 2009 as soon as I can figure out what I did with them... :facepalm

Many good times in Baja, but this day on the beach at Scorpion Bay was the best. LMAO roosting CJ while he was down.

gottta work on my BARF salute form ... instead of throwing it, think I just sort of push it ... :laughing

be fun to see more of your Baja pics ... sorry to hear about surgery recuperation, wishing you a full and speedy recovery! :gsxrgrl

hopefully we can all recover from 2020 in Baja in 2022, or something ... maybe Benton HS, have a big b-day myself in 2021 ... might be fun to try to rent the house across the street, and see a hot tub full of dirtyBARFers ... :toothless :party

Flip Flop flat tracking is the best! However your pants down full moon speed run was epic too. It was for aerodynamics surely :rofl
