Windows 10 Anti-Virus Question

My Dell Windows 10 desk top came with a one year McAfee subscription that is running out. I'm getting doomsday warnings from McAfee that I will be vulnerable if I don't renew.

I had understood Windows 10 to be pretty safe inherently. Do I need to re-up with McAfee (or other services)?
