Willow Springs Crash Analysis

I dunno, the guy in front was way too tight and turning in too soon on T1 and T3, T4 is kinda one apex for two turns at the top of the hill. Maybe he went too wide at entry. I was not that impressed by either one of their lines.

i kinda double apex 4. hit the inside as they had done right after 3 but go out alot wide (try to anyway) then swoop back in to square it off

while they were tight, it didn't seem the gix rider was lent over that far or was on the throttle that hard to have the rear let go

That is the same way I do it, I just think of the apex as being way out there and the whole thing is one turn, not two. Kinda like a triangle.

kinda sounds like he let up the throttle before the dump, maybe that helped him crash, and being too slow for the lean?

+1, dont know if that was a sloppy shift or horrible throttle control, perhaps even an engine problem, but the rpms became erratic.

I don't think thats a good vid for learning lines around Willow. Those guys were not pushing hard enough to flow through the turns.

It is pretty bumpy in certain spots. It's hard to tell from the video, but I think that's a spot where you can easily spin up the rear if you apply too much throttle while the rear is unsettled. I can even spin up my rear on my 60 HP FZR400 so it would be really easy on a GSXR. That's my theory.

edit: I think that might be a little bit before the bumpy spot I'm talking about, but plenty of riders have high-sided there in races and practice. Throttle control people... don't jerk open the throttle!

Here is a vid from a pretty fun race I had at Willow Springs a few months ago.
WSMC 550 SBK - November 2006
At 3:30 I pass three pretty good racers (2 FZR400's and an SV650) and then you can see their lines. The lines that we take in T6 through T9 are different than bigger bikes because of our low HP. There is also some pretty good passing towards the end of the video that shows you the multitude of lines that you can make work.
