Who has an air compressor and why?

Silly question but mine has a tank pressure and a set pressure. I need the set pressure to be say 70-100 for my nail gun and it seems to dip after use and I need to turn it on again even if the tank still has air? Or do I wait for the tank pressure to be in the correct range?

The regulator will set the line pressure to some value at or below the tank pressure. Some regulators will show a certain setting and then the pressure drops considerably below that when you start using air. I usually run the air tool or a blower nozzle as I set the regulator so the pressure ends up being stable.

It's possible that your compressor won't kick on until the tank pressure falls below 70 psi or so. If you need it to kick on at a higher pressure, the pressure switch *might* be adjustable.

Ok so what's a good "starter" air compressor? I think I'd like a better air assist for my laser, and I'm also wanting to build a DIY fogbuster for my CNC. Small tank is fine (I think) but the fogbuster would mean a steady, but low pressure stream of air for ~1 hour periods.

Figure out your required CFM and go from there. Vertical is better for floorspace and an oiled compressor is better for your ears.

Maybe not a framing or roofing nailers but the PC pancakes work fine for brads, staples, and finishing nailers and apparently pin nailers.

Agree, different compressors for different needs. For 18ga and 23ga pins I absolutely love my Senco PC1010. It is tiny, light, quiet, and you can fill the little 1 gallon tank with air and depending upon pin size and no leaks, I can run like 20-30 pins before it needs to top off. This is great if you need to do some remote nailing in an awkward location or are just too lazy to bust out extension cord and put it away :)

You can get them for $120 and for $200 get the combo with air line and 18 gauge nailer and brads I got. Seriously smoking deal. I can't tell how many thousands of brads I have shot with this thing but it keeps up like a rock star.

Senco is a sturdy brand. I cannot count how many hours I have spent running side nailers on a Senco.
