EBM had no problem selling me a used motorcycle with a lot of hidden problems that they knew about.
While I truly believe in the concept of caveat emptor, I'll never give them another dollar based on their willingness to screw me over.

Dealers aren't paying retail prices for oil, obviously. But it sounds like they just didn't want to do it. Maybe they didn't like you?

I'll admit that when they knocked off $2K from the retail price of the 2018 MT-10's I was sorely tempted. But when I did the math and all was said and done I'd only be saving a couple hundred dollars compared to the two other dealerships I've been sharking (Berkeley Yamaha & Mach 1). Do I really want to risk crappy post-purchase customer service just to pinch some pennies? Plus, someone I know used to work there a few years ago and there were some horror stories he used to tell about the service department.

I'll pay a wee bit more and give EBM a hard pass. :p

I was a motorcycle tech for almost 15 years. When I went into EBMS they treated me like I was a moron. I take my work to Fremont Kawasaki. Good place. And I recently took a job to DNA Motorlab in Hayward. Super nice people. Check them out.

Sure it is OK. I guess I am sensitive to shop bashing since they have been disappearing all to frequently. It is a bummer that you had a bad experience.

Others I am sure have had good ones. It is just all to often that a few bad ones end up out weighing the good.

Ride well.

Budman,
I'm not asking you to change your opinion; but honestly, are you even reading the comments from others??? Most people are stating their actual experiences at EBM. EBM is not in the business of repeat customers, they sell you a bike once, and they're done. THIS is why after my 1st visit a couple of years ago, I stopped going there. And now with my recent experience, I won't go back.

Honestly, every time I pass that store I just see pretty bikes being sold by crooks. And as for service, I'd go to the actual Kawasaki dealer in Fremont.

I dropped my bike at the Fremont Honda Kawasaki dealership on Tue to check for some vibrations - dealer told me it would be $110 for complete inspection of the bike, then they'll call & quote me any repairs (if needed).
Well, I get a call from them next day - they tell me a couple of bolts in exhaust were hand lose, which they tightened (FREE of charge), performed a full chain service (incl adjustment $32), nothing else was needed - my total bill is $32. I was shocked. I also told them I can't pick up the bike until Friday cuz I have no ride. They said, it's Ok. I told them their bill was very reasonable. They said, we want to keep you as our customer and don't charge for things that aren't necessary :cool. Now, imagine if EBM was looking into my bike's vibration issues + 2 days of storage.... (and they're Not even a dealership). :laughing

I was able to get a good price on both motorcycles I bought there so I thinks it's a good place to buy a motorcycle but I have had negative experience with the service department and won't go there.

I've purchased my first bike there without hassle....back in 2005...

It was quick and easy. The best part is that I bought a brand new 2006 600RR for $8500 out the door. The bike MSRP for $9k.

I haven't been back but I have heard that things went to shit.

Staying in business is tough these days. I try to support local whenever possible. I went a couple of months ago and was completely ignored by everyone. I hung around the bikes for a while and finally stepped into one of the offices and asked if anyone was there to sell a bike. They sent over a guy who admitted he know nothing about street bikes and couldn't give me any information. There was a bike I was seriously interested in and he was concrete that the sticker price was non-negotiable. I walked away. A few weeks later, bike is still listed so I called thinking I'll give it another go. Someone took my name and number for sales and never called back. I'll never do business with them. On the other hand, completely opposite experience at Fremont. I was treated with respect and given undivided attention with my hundred questions.

I went to Eastbay back in June . Wanted to get my valves checked. Got quoted 700+ even after I brought in all the parts.

1 week later they didn't do anything to the bike. It was to nice to not ride so I picked up the bike and tried again later. Also had other issues I wanted them to look at which was deemed "tech can't find anything"

Fast forward to September I took the bike to Fremont Kawasaki and they were able to check my valves , install missing screws , and only had to pay 400$ out the door. I could have probably done the check myself but it was worth the 400 to have a shop do it.

300$ cheaper than Eastbay. But I think it's just the district that they have to ramp the rate .

Am I missing something here??
What does a difference in shops Hayward to Fremont have to do with price?

I used to have a friend who worked at EBMS. He told me that the owner was really paranoid. Didn't trust his own employees that he hired. Had security cameras placed where he could watch his people and routinely accused them of theft.
Doesn't sound like a great work environment. All I know is that I went down there and asked about a simple job and was quoted an outrageous price.

I would say that the difference between the two dealerships comes from the top. I can't speak for EBMS, but I can say that Edddie Benson the owner of Fremont Honda / Kawasaki is good guy. I did a lot of business with him when he owned Fremont Cycle Salvage on Dusterberry Way (before opening the current dealership). Eddie has always been very friendly and honest guy from my experience. I've been over to the current dealership a few times and he always gets up from his desk and greets me. He's just a straight up nice friendly guy and runs a good shop.:thumbup
