So a while back on an Air Canada flight (or was it Air France?), I was watching Canadian or French TV series that I have not been able to track down in order to finish. It featured the staff who ran a tropical hotel. And all their trials and tribulations with running hotel and dealing with guests. I think the hotel was called "El Capitan" or something tropical like that. Or maybe that's what they called the manager, it's been a while and my recollection is fuzzy.

Anyone know which show this was?
thx

No, but I read a great book about a guy leaving the city life to follow the "dream" of owning a tropical paradise hotel, might fill that empty spot left -
"Don't Stop the Carnival" is a 1965 novel by American writer Herman Wouk. It is a comedy about escaping middle-age crisis to the Caribbean, a heaven that quickly turns into a hell for the main character. The novel was turned into a short-lived musical and later, album by Jimmy Buffett in 1997

Well yes, hotel was in tropics. Probably Bay Islands, Corn Islands , Isla Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Nueva Esparta, Providencia, Santa Catalina, etc.

Only island place I've been that speaks French is Bora Bora, Tahiti, Morea and some outposts in Caribbean. The French was never much into colonization like Spanish, just imperialism.

Recedite, plebes!
Maybe this?
HGTV's Renovation Island follows the real-life adventures of contractor Bryan Baeumler and his wife, designer Sarah Baeumler, as they and their four children move to the Bahamas to undertake an ambitious renovation project — not of a home, but an entire vacation resort.
