What to expect on your first Race weekend/ Day

Rode the only bike I owned to my first race, backpack full of the essentials, number plates, duct tape, zip ties... Roll up to the gate at Sears on one fine Saturday morning all jittery for the first event of what worked out to be a long 'career'.

Imagine the disappointment when greeted only by silence and a sign. A sign posted on the closed and locked gate.

Sunday races ONLY.

Check the calendar.

Can I ask for a broad overview of the NRS? After the check-in and riders' meeting, will we go to the classroom, or the track?

I make words too.

NRS will get their paperwork turned in and then go to class. All of the riders meeting content will be covered in class.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I did the NRS classroom and the test over the first two sessions, then did the rider evaluation and the Clubman races. I found it to be a very straightforward process.

I was inconsistent and not at the pace I thought I could do, but at least it was a crash-free first weekend. When I come back from Europe later in the year, I might do a few more. Thanks to the NRS folk and everyone at the AFM for making me feel welcome, and Flappy-Dave for taking care of the bike so I could focus on the rest.
