Welcome to ROTM and welcome your new Moderators

First, a message from Budman:

Welcome to the Riders on the Mend Forum, created to help our fellow riders who have had the misfortune to be seriously injured.

This is about dealing with the healing on a physical (as well as mental and emotional) level, the insurance, the lawyers, the medical-industrial complex, physical therapy, dealing with the fear of getting back on the bike, dealing with the grief of never being able to ride again.

Focus would be on recovery and a place to voice your/their story(ies) or just to vent in a setting where people understand your/their particular loss.

Sharing any valuable resources during rehabilitation and living with a life-changing event is encouraged.

This forum is not for postwhoring or arguments; stronger action will be taken against that sort of activity. The Mod core sees it as another useful way to support our community and I hope that respect for others is shown when posting here.

We have one of our fellow members to thank for its creation as it came out of his vision of being something special for others in a place similar to where he has found himself after his accident - and I applaud that in a big way. :applause

His resilience in a difficult situation has been amazing! I would like to introduce Carries An Axe / Adam as a Moderator for this forum.

Another man that lived through one of the most notable incidents here on Barf is its other Moderator, Ozymandias / Paul, who received the first ever Barf "Cheated Death Award" and also had to adjust to his injuries, bouncing back with the help of some Barf members.

I think both these guys will have something valuable to share. (The name links point to their respective stories.)

The outpouring of compassion by many of you is something special and I hope it will continue.

We as riders know that we could be hurt doing what we love... so we share a bond which brings out efforts to help and support, whether just words of encouragement, sending healing thoughts, paying visits, cooking food, or other ways.

Lots of great people here on Barf. :port

Enjoy!

I am honored to be moderating this forum as well, and hope that the interaction here will be kept respectful, cordial, supportive, inspirational, and uplifting. Please welcome your new moderators and use this forum to share your story or lend a helping hand.

-Bap

...for limited time...
Thanks Budman for starting this forum.
Another home run for Big Daddy BARFer!

I have an idea that when I am finally out of this wheelchair I will make available to BARF members and AFMers exclusively, my mobility chair. This means that when, god forbid, another of my brothers or sisters are so badly injured from a motorcycle crash, they will have the option to use a high quality mobility chair while they heal up.
This new forum is a perfect fit for doing this.

I am willing to post my saga, from it's Feb 28th inception to the my present woes if others are interested.
Pictures included of course!

I hope our stories can help others and this new forum saves people the grief of finding out so many of these issues involved with a crash the hard way.

Thanks again Budman!:thumbup

DrSwade...

Thanks for the thanks, but really it was Adam's vision and we just agreed that this would be a great thing for our community.

So thanks Adam :applause

I am sure we will see many different things will spin off this..

Hopefully lots of useful links and resources and stories about how to deal with this or that. I know every injury has its limitations and I have dealt with a few, but none long term. Getting by for a couple of months is different that the longer journeys and that is what were really looking to do.. make those longer journeys as best as they can be.

Lots of little things can be huge in the right circumstance when dealing with a life changing event.

If anyone has suggestions on links and info please post it up.. we will ultimately consolidate it as we have in other forums for ease of access... but all are open to be discussed and I am sure some will be useful right away too!

I'm hoping that this forum won't have too many members, but I'm glad it's here for those that need it. :thumbup

Thanks for the welcome and the kind words . I have nothing but high hopes and expectations for what a forum like this can provide for fellow disabled riders . I want to thank Budman for sharing my vision and making this idea a reality.

I look forward to meeting fellow disabled riders , hearing your stories , sharing advice , learning new things and most of all, helping each other out and improving lives .

So to all the disabled lurkers , former riders , injured racers and wheel chair bound who someday hope to ride ,welcome ! Let's help each other back to two wheels.

This was a great idea, Adam!

After I crashed, you were the first person I thought about, and I noticed that you were one of the first people to offer a sympathetic reply in my crash thread. Your concern for other riders is evident, and I have no doubt that you'll be a great moderator for ROTM. :thumbup

This is an excellent forum to schedule visits, help with all the paperwork horrors, and get moral support.
Good on you Budman, Adam, Paul, and of course Bap.

exploring!
I'm really excited to see this forum. I think it's going to help injured riders realize they are still very much a part of the motorcycling community as well as give them a place to talk about what they are going through. :)
