Weaverville HoHo Outlaw Mendo Grand Tour, 2020

Cincinnatus

Not-quite retired Army
Cincinnatus made it up Weaver Bolly on a 2020 GSA with street tires, which gains 5062’ in ten miles, or an average 10% grade (think my math is correct) with probably much steeper hairpin sections. Don’t think I could’ve done that ...

can’t say enough about how awesome the main fire roads in Mendo are on a loaded KLR or, I imagine, a big ADV bike ... :party

Hey, John!

Thanks for the compliments, I give most credit to the GSA's "Enduro Pro" mode, which probably saved me more than once! :teeth Tires were 90/10s, so not pure street. For those who haven't seen it, the GSA at elevation:
https://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=535729&d=1595829665, and that's at 6,752 feet. :party

I've got to get with you regarding the Relive app to see if I can import my GPS tracks into that. :teeth

I'm pretty hopeless, GPS wise, and tek-wise, Cary had to download the Relive app onto my phone for me ... :laughing

was pleased how easy Relive was to use, and think it gets high marks from the cognoscenti ... I certainly enjoyed using it on this trip. :party

see you soon! :ride

hey cheez, thanks for reading and posting ... got vague plans to try to make Jalopyshoppe's TI coffee klatch on Friday. :ride

Well then I shall endeavor to convince one of my two-wheeled conveyances to transport me to the island Friday morning as well. I'm sure you've stories to share from the ride.

OMG beautiful sky. Great trip. Watching the relive, after vacaville I had no idea where you were. Makes me want an adventure bike, but I'm clumsy enough on pavement :p..

Hi 89fj,
yes, running into Brian and getting to see his time-lapse images of the comet and Milky Way was pure serendipity.

Well then I shall endeavor to convince one of my two-wheeled conveyances to transport me to the island Friday morning as well. I'm sure you've stories to share from the ride.

OK, sounds like Cary and Schnitty and myself are on the hook, now. will have to set my alarm ... :laughing
hope to see you on Treasure Island tomorrow around 8am! :)

Great pics and stories. Sad I missed it. Next year.

Hi Lonester, we were sorry to hear about your crazy incident and that you'd hurt your hand ... hope you are healing up and that the bike is OK. :angel

Yeah, I'll be looking forward to next year as well.

Hey Jake Ellison, the more the merrier! :cool

as always a great ride report, didnt even know this was still on. I need to get some dirt riding soon or I'm going to go nuts haha

me too, cweanger2000 ... guess my next planned trip will be whenever StonyBARF is scheduled for later this year. Thanks for reading and posting!

Hi chickenfried,
yes, the Relive is fun, but not a lot of info about the roads. Maybe if I buy a membership instead of using the free version I could add a layer that shows road names ... I'm pretty clumsy on a dual-sport, myself, so I just make up for it by being slow ... :laughing:thumbup

couple more pics: m0t0_ryder turned us on to this fun, cool-temp-wise spot on the Trinity River where Rush Creek Road meets Trinity Dam Blvd very close Lewiston. Cary and I made a nice loop out of Hwy 3, Rush Creek, Trinity Dam back to Hwy 3 on Friday afternoon:

Schnitzel ready to go in his groovy "Pet Palace" on the 2017 Yamaha FJ-09. the blue truck with the kayak is m0t0_ryder's rig.

Thanks John for another great ride report. I'm living vicariously through you, WoodsChick and others! Wanna go MySelf. :ride

Wonderful pics from Brian the photographer. Nothing like a big open sky to complement scenic mtn vistas :thumbup

Always an inspiration John. I never would have known about Weaver Bolly without your reports - made it up at the end of the rally last year.

I now have have a couple more destinations to add to my list.

Dammit, missed my chance to ride with Schnitty!!:x Well there's always next year.

Funny how life works that the week immediately after Weaverville my Ducati was fixed (the mechanic messed up the first time), and the saddle bags I ordered months ago finally arrived.

Brian's pictures are just amazing, also very educational
