Washington Lane Splitting Legislation

We're of course blessed with the wonderful privilege of lane splitting here in California, and also facing some legislation as well this year.

I keep an eye on legislation in other states as well, and figured I'd share some of that stuff here—it's an interesting comparison. One of two companion bills was heard in the Washington Senate Transportation Committee today. Video is here, and both bills and more info is here.

In an intersting twist, Washington Traffic Safety Commission and Washington State Patrol attempted to use YouTube videos of crazy-fast splitting and crashing to turn the committee against lane splitting. It kind of backfired, with one committee member demanding to know if the activity in the videos would be legal under the proposed law—it wouldn't.

I'd embed the video here but it's some oddball platform and I'm not sure I actually can embed it.

Nick moved up that way last year.

Watching the video now.

Seeing references to California and the Berkeley study is very cool.
