Want to tour Golden Gate Park. Is it safe?

My family was planing a SF trip to see the Golden Gate Park and it’s Bridge, Union Square, Lombard Street, and the Coit Tower. Is it safe at these locations and any recommendations on how to prevent trouble? Where are the safest places to park? What time is it not safe to be outside? My relatives that lived there moved to Santa Clara because crime was getting it of control. I am getting second thoughts about going there because of news like this:

You are safe likely. Just not your car. Which is why I don’t want to go there anymore. SF Values, man, as well as state mandates regarding policing means that car break-ins are somewhere in law enforcement priority with littering citations.
I think society is just supposed to let them break into cars until they are tired of it. Don’t leave anything in your car and be prepared to pay window glass deductible.
I don’t have the answer and whatever I would want to happen is not palatable to the people who live there.

Or take Uber or some damn thing.

Similar situation at Berkeley Marina where people fly cool kites, which you might like to see because it will remind you of home.

Police can't be everywhere all the time. Just don't leave stuff in the car or you're asking for trouble.

I live three blocks from GG park and I rate it as a 8/10 for safety if not higher. There are some areas that would be rated lower, but stay in the main areas and you're fine. As always in an urban environment keep aware of your surroundings.

Things you might see:
Beautiful landscapes
Beautiful architecture
Beautiful plant life
Beautiful views
Different People of many cultures and color

Wild life:
Coyote
Owl
Hawk
Skunk
Raccoon

All those other areas are also safe. Just don't leave anything in the car. In the video you posted they left luggage and backpacks in the car. Don't even leave it in the trunk or at least don't let people see you putting it in the trunk if you do. Live life, don't live by fear and go enjoy our fantastic city. If your car gets broken into chalk it up to "shit happens" Life is short, and I want to see stuff.

I leave my car at a lot with a valet or paid attendant. I'd avoid street parking. Otherwise never felt unsafe in that area.

I avoid going to the city anymore. We have a rental in SF and only go in if we have to. The homeless and thefts are out of control in SF!

I have gone to GG many times from Alameda. I don't leave anything in my car and I have never had a problem. I have walked around the neighborhoods for lunch and even went in stores! I never had a problem.

You know what they say in the investment world: past performance may not be indicative of future results.

Kind of also applies to others aspects of life.

SF is one of the 2-3 safest bigg-ish cities in the USA.

If you never walked outside alone, outside of your family's owned stores and factories, please try it without mommy holding your hand?

Warning: people with long hair exist.. and they are OUTSIDE!

hundreds of them people around

p.s. just don't leave visible phones, coins, dollar bills and otherwise precious metals or electronics visible in your car.

this can't be stressed enough, as OP is planning to visit tourist areas where thieves might be prowling for unsuspecting tourists. at least keep it out of sight in the trunk etc.

apparently some shitbags also use RF sniffers, bluetooth i assume, to determine if electronics are hidden in trunks/gloveboxes etc. so take those items with you as well.

otherwise, i wouldn't give crime a second thought visiting SF

You didn't even mention the feral hobos.

They have been around in SF in great numbers since I was a kid. It's more or less the same if not a little better than in the past in most parts of GG park.

I give the homeless a break and speak to some of them regularly. We're all humans and deserve to be treated with respect. I'm close enough to possibly be one of them my self..
