Using GPS for Workouts?

I've ben debating buying an arm GPS unit. With the amount of hiking and running I would like to do this summer I thought it would be a great tool to use as part of my work out.

Does anyone have or use one for hiking, running or biking? Experiences?

Looking at the Forerunner 301 or 305.

I swear by mine. I bought one for the gf for Xmas, who loves hers as well. Bap and Ryan also seem to like theirs.

Elevation numbers are usually off when I run with it, but I use it mainly for pacing myself and checking my heart rate. I'm guessing it would be a lot more accurate if it didn't record all the elevation changes that go with something strapped to my wrist.

I'm a very results-oriented person when it comes to my workouts, and I like how the Garmin lets me know where I stand. Plus, it's just cool :)

Uploading the data to MotionBased is also fun. Here's a bike ride from a week ago:

i was just looking at garmin for my moto and spoke with them. thing to know is, if you are getting it for emergencies, garmin gps units only receive, they only have a receiver, so you can only track yourself, no one else can track you if you get lost or injured. a cell phone will do both if you get a gps enabled with navigation and gps e911. sanyo makes a really rugged small light weight one to military specs that will clip on to you. you could throw it against a brick wall and it would still work.. really well made. you can get one new for about 100 on ebay and just add a phone for 10 a month if you have sprint and already have a nice pda, smart, or other multimedia super phone that would not take a lot of abuse. i was thinking of doing this for my summer/fall moto adventures and just having the second line seasonally.

I have the 201 and it works great, a little bulky, but it works great.

The only problem I had with it was the syncing process.

Believe me, after running 10 miles, you don't want to pull out a bunch of cords and upload data.

The 405 does it wirelessly and automatically.
It would be great to run then take the watch home put it next to the computer and shower and go to work. You can analyze your workout at work!

Anyone use their garmin on mapmyfitness website?
