Think we can do this in April May or June?
Will StupidCovid be behind us?
It’s like $250 for the reservation. I can do that. Totally worth it.

What do you guys think? Should I reserve Gray Pine? And when?

Edit: I just made the reservation. More to follow.

I admire and share your enthusiasm! Couple of thoughts....

Perhaps waiting until later in January to schedule a date and reserve the space might more prudent. We won't know what the D36 race schedule is until then, and a lot of regulars who join us are racing D36 enduros and harescrambles.

It will also get us a better picture of what's happening with this whole Covid crap this winter/spring. Given the current climate, I really wouldnt be worried about not having the space available for us in spring.

If we wait until the end of January, it will still allow a number of months to spread the word and allow folks plenty of time to plan for it.

Scheduling, then cancelling or changing the date for any number of potential reasons potentially hurts the credibility and importance of Stonybarf IMO. It's certainly one of the highlights of my year! :ride

This is just my opinion.

I'll have more bandwidth after the Holidays, but like to touch base with you about a potential Hollister event. Perhaps we could get a guy like your French friend who does car suspension, but was a French Enduro rider, do a mini clinic (day thing you helped organize many years ago.) Or any number of folks offering some expertise and even some other groups getting involved. I have some ideas.....

Its on then! Date TBD.
Eric the Frenchman has issues with the continuing evolving business climate. I did ride with him today though. Twas very good.

Maybe we can get Brian Garrahan to join us. His instruction is quite good. Don Amador joined us once. And Bruno! And Dick Mann, or somebody that kicked his ass...

The schedule is already out. https://ama-d36.org/data/docs/2021_Meets_Events.pdf There is an event almost every single weekend in March/April.

We already had a Stonybarf during the height of COVID last June. It's outdoor camping. People can come or not, wear a mask or not. What's the difference between last June and this April?

Last year I seem to remember Butch booking it for Easter weekend. Then he decided to change it. Then he changed again because someone wanted to race the Hare Ball.

So, two reschedulings, I don't believe it hurt the credibility and importance of Stonybarf, whatever that means exactly. We had a killer turnout in June.

Don't book it in June again; it's too hot and dusty. March/April has the best chance for good conditions.

I say book April 15-18 and don't look back. It's available and doesn't conflict with any D36 events.

Anytime after May 1 can bring triple digit heat. Late April might be the best weather. If there is a heavy winter then there will be trees down then.

Guaranteed there will be trees down no matter the weather if it’s anything like Cow Mtn and Penny Pines. Trees killed by the fires are finally coming down from rot. I won’t ride Cow or PP without a saw in my bag. Going to get chainsaw approval ASAP so I can carry a chainsaw too.

But the trees won’t clear themselves so I’ve accepted it as part of the ride for the near future.

They close the group campground, or have due to Covid. I agree, camping outdoors is a low risk activity.

How about April 22 to 25? Plans the previous weekend...

How firm are your plans Butch? Be nice to schedule on an off wknd for D36. But at the same time, be nice to have you there too. I'm good with either wknd 4/15-18 no D36 or 4/22-24 we get Butch.

Wifey B Day is in the first set, not that I know that I can come anyway. I can try to make budman represent me.

I’ll look at the availability. Covid cancelation is $15, or something.

Ride dirtbikes, camp, eat, and watch the bonfire. Its called Stonybarf because its held at Stonyford.

Heck, some folks don't even ride and just come to hang out. If warm, stick your camp chair in the swimming hole and enjoy the sun.

The campsite, food, beverages, bonfire, and company are a bigger draw to me than the riding. Everything from ADV riding, dual sport, to great dirtbiking. Accessible even by street bike as well. Just good folks hanging out having a good time. :thumbup

THAT RIGHT THERE! :thumbup:ride:staRang:smoking:bbq

That's a pretty reasonable order of operations if you ask me. Tempted to ride out there on the DRZ for this. As I'd love to get more dirt time and I've learned / pushed my comfort zone the most following experienced riders on the few changes I've has. Always fun.
