Holy shit, dude! Yeah, you'll be using that chair for awhile yet. I can't even imagine the atrophy you're going to have to deal with. So how long before they might let you use your legs now?

Yeah that weight things a shocker. I went from 150 to about a buck ten :confused
It's the trauma to the body.

My pelvis was only fractured and a fixator was not required, Thank God. Be careful once you get it removed. You will inadvertently move your leg wrong, happens in your sleep, and that pain is like a shot that'll wake your ass up like RFN! :wow

Depression and frustration will creep in every now and then. Just try to ignore it and keep busy, it'll pass.

Heal up! :thumbup

Is it summer yet?
Ouch man, heal up quick. Sending some prayers your way. And when I busted up my leg a couple AFMers recommended taking Noni, and I think it helped. You can get it at Costco. Get the pills, the liquid is NASTY. Best of luck on your recovery. :thumbup

What he said.
You no doubt have too much time to think. When I think myself into a slump I abuse Netflix and when I watch too much I:bigbarf

Also where did you get your electric chair? You should see what your insurance limit is for durable med equipment. (if you are going to be in one a while) There are some pretty cool chairs out there with all sorts of speed packages and whatnot.:burnout

I did that too, I'm assuming it was a joke to play on your friends, as it did taste nasty.

Hey, Rob.

I'm very sorry for this mishap.

I highsided the other day, and share 2 of your points.

1. Indeed, the amount and quality of care they give us at the scene and emergency room is awesome. No praise is never too much. It's the silver-lining of crashing in this neck of the woods. It's the difference between living and dying, and a good way to start the long road to recovery.

2. I too was wearing top and bottoms Forcefield, and can't say enough about the product. The EMTs cut them all out. Oh well. But I don't have a single bruise, cut, scratch, nick, etc, to tell the story. I already made arrangements to replace them.

But enough about me and points in common. Heal up fast and PM me if you need anything. My evenings and weekends are pretty boring right now, so you'd be doing me (and my wife) a favor to get out of the house.

Cheers,

Marc.

p.s. Did you find the ambulance ride to be pretty quiet considering the siren is sitting on the other side of the roof? I did.

Sorry to hear all your troubles and hope you make a great recovery, I too was there for that track day and heard that someone hit the pit wall.

Attached is one of the pictures I took with the Reach helicopter taking you off to the hospital, I have a few more as well.

I guess it has been a while so I should post up the results of my last follow-up and give some thanks where due.

I would like to start out by thanking everyone for even being interested in follow a story such as mine or Adam's, Ozymandias'. BARF and the motorcycling community in general are just plain awesome!
There was an idea that since I wouldn't allow anyone to give me any handouts that we would have a raffle in order to raise a bit of money to offset my lack of earning. I was going to buy a new scooter and also offer up some other cool prizes. Well, that fell through as I decided that rather than running a raffle I should be focused on healing and getting back to normal.

There were many people who offered to help me with the raffle and I would like to thank them here: Budman- who offered up a banner on BARF once I got the raffle rolling, Lance and Linda Keigwin- they gave me a very cool autographed helmet. If you don't know them, they are the coolest track day providers! I spent most of my time at the track with them and the Keigwin family of instructors are nonpareil!
Most of all, thanks to my riding buddy, fellow AFM/WERA racer and BARFer Quinton, Quinton Jones for offering to head up this raffle even though he is so busy that he is only home enough during the year to just barely use his Keigwin VIP pass!
At one point, he and I were fairly close in our riding and even though I am stoked to see him just get faster and faster, moving up with the big boys, it sucks to know I am not progressing with him!

Thanks to irishgixxer for the photo. I think I can see my twisted foot up against the window....eeeewwwww!

I saw the doctor on June 24th and had the external fixator removed. One of the pins had become loose and painful. He removed it with his fingers! He used a tool to remove the other one but since I have no sensation on the left side it was completely painless. Thanks for small miracles.
He seems to think that I am healing but the x-rays don't really show that type of bone where my repairs are that well.
What do you think?

As you can see, there is much more extensive hardware than before. He even left any extra washer in there for good measure!
(Said it wasn't worth cutting me open to remove it)
He asked that I don't walk on it for a couple more weeks and then only with a walker. I have the holes where the pins were which are now oozing wounds that are slow to heal. Can't blame them. I spent six weeks bandaging them in a way that was to prevent them from healing around the pins.
I can now shower, which if you haven't ever been restricted from that, you really do take for granted.
I am hoping I will be walking well by the middle of next month as I have a 25 year reunion with a ship I was a first crew member of (called a Plankowner) on August 19th in San Diego. USS Bunker Hill CG-52. She was the first ship with vertical launch missles and was the first to launch Tomahawks in the first gulf war. Pride runs strong on that ship and I can't wait to see all of my old shipmates again. A warship is difficult to move around in when you are healthy and probably impossible if not. Fingers crossed.

I went to the AFM races last weekend and saw many of you. It was so cool to get out into the paddock again. I watched most of the races from the announcer's booth and just had a great time! I realized that if I were to ever ride again it would only be to race. I figured out that the stalking, executing a pass and making it stick is what motorcycling is for me.
I couldn't just putt around the track. I will give it a few years and revisit the issue then.
Time just ticks away here. My spirits are up and people tell me I look good. I think it's just because I shaved off my beard which makes me look 15 years older.

Thanks again to all for the positive thought and prayers!
Hopefully the drama of my recovery will taper off and so will my reasons to add to this thread.
Thanks all for keeping up!
Cheers!!!

Holy s@#$

:shocker - wow, that's quite a story. Just looking at the X-rays and the contraption around your pelvis makes me wince. While I don't know you personally, I want to thank you for sharing your story and wish you all the best. You seem like a tough guy and will work through this!...on the positive side, with your radical weight loss, you may qualify to become a spokesperson for Weight Watchers!

Rob, you should blog your story. You can set up advertisers and make a little money on the side to help out paying for bills. Just get some adds, and when readers click the ads, you get paid.

Thanks Dan. As I said, I hope my story ends and if it does continue it will be about me smoking around the track on a new RC8R! (Yes, I am addicted to KTM, even though they they have some of the worst support and customer service I have ever experienced. The fact they make an incredible product can't be denied.)

Not that I couldn't use the $$, I am just a idiot when it comes to 'net stuff. Hell, I just figured out how to imbed photos for this thread!

Thanks for the suggestion.....now go put your bike back together for the next round!
