The third generation CTS-V could be obtained with the LT4 engine. 640 HP.

I remember reading somewhere that their market research was showing that typical customers were not wanting that much power. I was talking to a local woman here and she said her husband wanted one but it was scary when she drove it. So they compromised and got a Jag.

Scary for her...?
Perfect car. :laughing

Bonus of having stick.... wife, daughters don’t use a stick. Nobody ever wanted to use my car. :teeth

Before the CST-V, I always wanted an XLR. Really bummed they discontinued those after one generation.

Never got either, though, but we picked up something for my wife this last summer. I’ve never had a “nice” car before. It makes even a mundane errand more enjoyable.

‘17 ESV premium luxury. We’d been looking for months for a Yukon XL Denali 4x4 after we rented one to bomb out to NE Utah to pick up our puppy and there were just none anywhere. This popped up and it’s basically the same price so we went for it.

You dodged a bullet. The stuff that goes wrong on those things and what it costs to fix? You may as well have just gotten the gold standard of the segment and gone with the SL500.

In just the barely a year I worked for Cadillac, I lost count of how many folding top problems (water leaks or the operation) I saw on those damn things. Plus the Northstar engine is a bit of a leak factory.

Plus the XLR tailights are unobtanium.

Sad truth! :( Really nice looking car.
Seriously looked at a few about five years ago, all had signs of oil leaks, some worse than others. The Tops, three cars had issues, one never did.

Parts, YIKES! Here's a snippet from GMAuthority (this was a year ago):
"Individual taillamp assemblies are going for anywhere between $1,500 and $3,000 on eBay, while online parts suppliers ranged as high as $3,500."

Yes, the XLR looked to me like how the SL should have looked before they completely rounded them out. I loved the angular look, there really isn’t much like it. Imagine it now with the LS and modern suspension tech...

I like the angular look too. Cadillac moved away from it.

It was called "Art and Science."

Trivia - the CTS debuted on Matrix Reloaded, part of which was shot in Alameda.

This sounds like the perfect car for 24hours of lemons. The Allantè fanboys went nuts the first time one raced. It was hilarious

They had a real chance with the ELR, but aimed too low on the performance and too high on the price. Beautiful car, I see one around here and it still garners attention.

I hope Cadillac rethinks hybrids in the future.

My wife drove the purchase of the car and I was skeptical. It turned out to be a really good car. While I wouldn’t consider it a sports sedan, it isn’t slow. The 2016 was given a little more power and top speed (I can confirm the top speed). The active suspension does a great job in normal as well as ‘sport’ mode. Curiously the 2016 also has ‘Competition’ mode. No one knows for sure exactly what changes when it is selected.

The car does have a few quirks that annoy me. The biggest being that it will switch on the brake lights when going down hill with the cruise control engaged. I reached out to a friend at GM in mid 2016 to see if he could put me in touch with someone at Cadillac to have that shut off. He got back to me saying that the entire ELR team was reassigned in early 2016 and no one was responding to his/my request.

3300 were made in 2 years (2014 & 2016) with only 523 made in 2016. I’m a bit concerned with parts availability, but at this point we don’t plan on getting rid of the car.

That was another dumpster fire for Cadillac. They told me that every single one immediately came back after delivery with laundry lists of issues. Got to the point where the owner of the store just had the tech take possession of the car for a few days as soon as it rolled off the truck and put a couple hundred miles on them to to flush out all issues and fix them before actually allowing the car to be sold.
