Shields for covid-19

Do people really think that shields, especially the shorty shields that some people wear is doing anything to prevent the spread of the virus?

Especially those ones that just barely cover the mouth from the chin.

Yeah, they're be more comfortable to wear, but I don't think that there is any benefit to wearing them, probably less than you'd get from wearing a bandana.

So, why are they allowed?

Are the people who wear the short ones just anti-maskers satisfying the requirements or do they actually believe that they make a difference?

50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

If there was a "this mask is 100% effective" mask, we'd all be wearing it.

If there was a "wear this mask, it's 100% effective" mandate, we'd all be complaining about our civil wiberties.

Sure they do something. Just like your (probably) chintzy cotton mask does something.

Why would you not allow someone to wear one? Do you also propose we ban baseball caps?

I think almost all of the medical professionals wear a face shield. Snaggy's avatar shows him wearing one. Why not allow them?

Personally, I feel that everyone should be wearing a carbon filtered head bubble that seals around the neck or shoulders.

It's supposed to be in addition to a mask, not a substitute. For eye protection I'd assume

Now, think about what it's actually (not) accomplishing.

Not only is everything you're breathing out going into the air, but everything you breath is is coming out of the air.

It is accomplishing pretty close to absolutely nothing.

And, snaggy always had an n95 face mask under the shield.

I have not seen those and would not classify them as "shields" as in the classical face shields that one would naturally think of, like what Snaggy shows. Who knows what crazy things people will come up with? But would these "shorty" shields be any different, if you're not considering eye protection? I certainly wouldn't wear one, unless that is all I had - even a tee pulled up over the nose seems preferable...

I pretty much consider the typical cotton face masks (and 6' distancing) a joke. To me, it's like wearing MC gear and thinking you're protected from bullets. But sure, they all do something.

As I understand it, those specific ones were developed with a specific use case...

Tellers that we're behind a primary shield (plexiglass wall/enclosure), this would be their secondary measure.

This way their deaf patron's could read lips.

I've looked for ones similar with more overall protection for staff. I feel the lack of seeing the mouth and smile, hurts the ability for sales through building a relationship.

But I'd want more protection around the clear shield for the staff and the guest.

Watching my server with a fogged up mask would remind me of my younger years playing with the condensation on the kitchen slider while mom makes soup...I'd promptly leave your establishment if I saw that.

^^ Thats pretty stupid.

I bet they're selling a lot of them!

They probably are. Basically they're the anti-maskers no mask mask which somehow gets them around the mask requirement which is obviously not written very well.
