running two different bikes in same class

My wife races clubman lightweight and F40 light weight on a 650 but she wants to try my DRZ supermoto at the Sears round...can she run different bikes in the same class from race to race without it effecting the points?
(last weekend was her first race)

yes.

Points are given to the rider, not the bike. Your points are accumulated by the finish in the class, regardless of vehicle. This is no different than if you destroyed a bike mid-season in a big fiery crash, and then bought a different bike to continue the season.

Points for the Rider/Transponder so as long as the bike is legal in that class should be no problem. Not sure swapping teh 650 for a DRZ is a good "points" move though

This. Adam Schindler (#860) ran a souped up CRF450 in clubman and couldn't compete. I'd stick to the SV.

thanks guys...I'm gonna try to talk her out of the DRZ...she wasn't very competitive on the 650 so she thought she should change it up but I think she just needs more tracktime on the bike (new to her)...she only did 2 trackdays on it before racing.

yes...but 250 superbike because of mods it has. It's pretty competitive with the 250's though and really fun to ride on a tight track like sears. Hell, I've even had a blast riding it at TH!

Hey Mike,

I raced with you wife this weekend in both classes. I saw her have a couple of really big wheelies at the start. Remind her that most of us are over in pit lane practicing our starts (and heating up out tires).

An alternative point of view is to have her run the SV on Saturday and the Drz on Sunday in 250. More seat time.

Yah she almost looped it in the second race. Funny thing is though..she's done several NRS race starts with PTT and always nails it....must have been the adrenaline...racing is a different experience :laughing.

My opinion: If someone isn't competitive on a 650 versus other 650s, the solution is more seat time on the 650, not trying to find anther bike. I see it at track days all the time. People rely on power as a quick fix to reduce lap times and ultimately, it makes it harder to get faster.

I had a DRZ 400 set up for supermoto, flatslide, airbox mod, cams....... Honda and Yamaha 250's would pull me on the straights. Made for fun passing practice in the corners but it was frustrating too. It isn't a good fit for something larger than a supermoto track.
