Recently moved to the city (SF) and looking to find the best close-ish nature routes in the area (Marin / etc.)

Any must-see roads I should take?

From Bolinas-Fairfax Road you can hike past Cataract Falls. Continue on other roads past Bolinas and you can visit Alamere Falls.

Take US-1 south out of San Francisco. If you can access the Great Highway, begin there. Be careful, sand and two wheels don't mix.

Ride the coast until you are bored of the beautiful coastline, then turn back and discover all that you missed on the way down.

Comeback with a report and someone will steer you to 35/9 and all the twisty roads in the Santa Cruz Mtns.

Now if you want au natural, there's this little beach by a big orange bridge called Baker...

Off the top of my head for Marin/sonoma: Fairfax / Bolinas Rd, Mt. Tam, Marshal /Petaluma Rd, Bohemian hwy, Lucas Valley Rd, Cazadero Rd to Kings Mtn to either Annapolis or Skaggs / Springs Rd and of course you just ride up over Tam and enjoy Hwy 1 as far as you want to go. Just so you know, some of those roads are quite goaty. And there are more roads to explore

East Bay: Grizzly Peak to Skyline to Redwood to Palomares to Calaveres then make your way to Mt. Ham up and over to Mines. And there are more roads to explore.

South: Hwy 35 to Alice’s and go from there, more 35 to 9, 84 to the coast, 84 to Pescasero Rd. Lots of side (and more goaty) roads in the SC mountains Tunitas, Alpine etc, you could just explore and have a blast.

Have fun exploring.

Wasn't there a thread with a list of roads/routes?

Yeah, that's right: Rudy's(?) Road Ranking, I'm not certain the user name is Rudy.

Also, I've found that Butler maps are great too, I've used them for areas I'm not familiar with and they've been a fantastic resource for finding fun roads.

I'm a Butler map fan too. I bought a set of Butler maps that cover everything from Colorado west for $45 on Advrider a few years ago. They've served me well.
