Rotator cuff repair. You had?

I *might* have to have this surgery and I was wondering how long the surgery is, recovery, and how long to fully get back?. On the 'net it says that it might take anywhere between 4 weeks to 6 months. Any info from those who had this done is much appreciated.

(This damage is not due to a motorcycle accident.)

Depends how serious the injury is.

I had both mine done. Years of weight lifting plus arthritis plus a couple of crashes.

I needed a couple of reattachments, bicep frays cleaned up, both acromions cut off, bursectomys. Probably some other stuff I forgot. Recovery was many months, and I followed physiotherapy religiously, plus general exercises in the gym.

Man that had to be the most painful schitt i ever endured.

But beforehand, I was in agony while I slept. I would yell in pain and wake myself up when rolling over in the night.

I had this one get stretched way too long in a bail. It absolutely baffled 3 orthopedic surgeons for 3 years (a big chunk of my life.)

I finally gave up on cortisone shots/massage/silly= useless therapy & found a good doc who didn't discriminate against bikers. He fixed it by surgical removal. It's called the "CA Ligament." I now have 90% of my shoulder back w/no pain anymore. VERY happy I finally got fixed.

This is the MAN who took care of me = 5 stars, the best!

i've had 21 dislocations, resulting in 5 labrum repairs. My last 1 was a doozy. i tore my glenoid humeral ligament off both ends, so it was just floating around in there, and it took the bone with it. Labrum was ripped half way off. my rotator cuff is in great shape. rotator repairs are much easier on the body than labrum and ligament tears.

Recovery depends on how much work you put into it. if you just sit on the couch and wait 6 months, you're not doing yourself any favors. If you do PT every day, and make it worth your while, you'll be just as strong as you were before. but again, its ALL up to you. The surgery is the repair, the work is the fix.

I had rotator cuff surgery about 10 years ago (open surgery... not arthroscopic) , best thing I ever did. The recovery was rough, though. The pain after the surgery was far worse than the injury ever was. Full recovery took about 3-4 months. After that, I've had no pain since.

My story is that after ~30 years of using my right shoulder wrong while playing tennis, my rotator cuff is about 30% torn (as of last October) and I have had another MRI at Kaiser just a couple of days ago. The doctor (Ortho) feels that the surgeon will have to fix it. My problem is that I don't have much faith with Kaiser, so I'm concerned and on the fence as of now. I have an appointment in two weeks to speak to the surgeon.

Right now, I don't play tennis and the pain is not that bad at all. I just take an ibuprofen(after dinner, of course) once in a while if it bothers me before going to bed. My goal is to be able to play tennis as before, so I'm leaning towards getting it fixed once and for all.

BTW, thanks for talking about your own experience. It helps a lot.
