Residential Exterior Lighting...what do you recommend?

Recommend "good neighbor" lighting.

Huge +1 to this. Having huge spotlights, with really sensitive or broadly aimed motion sensors that trigger on street activity or wind, or just are straight up on all night long, is such a dick thing to do.

Your shit should help you take the trash out at night, and illuminate if someone is literally trying to break into your house. Otherwise it should stay completely off. Please stop fucking up the darkness by throwing lumens everywhere to protect your fortress from fictional threats.

Probably more productive to have this conversation with your neighbors than us. :laughing

Can't speak for other systems but the Ring floodlights have adjustments for the camera motion settings (which drive whether you receive alerts and video recordings) and light sensitivity.

The camera motion zones are areas that you can draw on the screen, so that motion in those area will trigger alerts and video recordings while motion outside of those areas will not.

The lighting control sensor is an infrared sensor and doesn't offer quite the granular control that the camera motion detector does. The sensors cover a 270 degree area, divided into 90 degree segments and you can turn each of them on or off. The sensor also has a range control to increase or decrease the detection distance. This setting applies to the segments that are turned on.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I'm looking into everything that was shared here.

We already have cameras set-up. I'm not going to go into the specifics of those other than to say they are not cloud connected.

Yes, yes, yes, a million times yes. In this area about 1 out of 6 houses leave at least one light on overnight. I hate it. I love the (almost) lack of light pollution and will do my best to maintain it.
