Random NON-POLITICAL Thoughts Unworthy of a new thread

My son is better at racing his midling 4x4 RC than I am when using my Losi SCT22 which is twice as fast. The backyard RC track is a tight course with few straightaways for me to make up lost ground.

We already have a general thread and a what are you thinking about thread, what's the unique factor of this one?

I never quite got what that other thread was for anyway, tbh. I thot it was kind of an in joke for certain people.

I think people who drive (the rarely seen) 2004 Honda Si and let it roll down the hill like 1-2 feet when starting because they can't use the clutch... a bit lame.

Manual transmissions are the bane of many anymore. On both trips to Azores, the car rentals are almost always manuals. So there you are, on mountanous islands with plenty of weather, and always bald tires (they run em to nothing) and whenever you go into a village, it has the old super narrow cart lanes.

Lots of post-rental auto repair.

.. manual transmissions outside of the USA? You don't say...

They did start getting more automatics with the advent of DSG and powerful cars.

What is "plenty of weather"?

Lots of rainshowers and always wet pavement or volcanic red dirt roads. Think Hawaii but 10 degrees cooler. Epic mudslides.

I don't know about the rest of the world. I rented cars in England, Spain and Portugal and there were always plenty of automatics. When we rented in Spain, it was a brand new BMW little ugly diesel thing. It was pushbutton starter, auto transmission and auto kill at idle. Boy, that confused me at first. I didn't even have a clutch to kill the engine but it kept dying until I figured out it was supposed to. On no sleep after big flight, lost in rush-hour mid-town Madrid, am I painting the picture adequately?

Is that the hatchback? I love those, mainly because of their rarity. I hate the location of the stick though, so odd.

+1 for stick shifts.
