Private Indoor Home Gun Range

About 20 years ago, me and a buddy were seriously considering building a shooting range on his property. He lives on a ranch outside of Petaluma. The plan was to dig a trench and bury a shipping container. He bought the shipping container but ended up using it as a tack room.

That's an interesting thought. Hmmm....

I know of a house with an underground range in Saratoga. Dude was a dotcom millionaire from the 90s.

To each their own, I guess, but in my opinion that arsenal is a tremendous waste of money and evidence that the owner has some serious issues to deal with.

And yes, I fully admit that part of my opinion is based on envy at the time and money to amass something like that.

If i had the money and space I would probably have something like that because there are a lot of guns I would love to try out.

I'm not a gun guy but I enjoy shooting now and then and would probably have a dozen or so locked away. But that just seems kind of ridiculous to me.

That said, if I had that money I'm sure people would say the same about my bike, moto, and car collections. :laughing

I did a bunch of work in a house right on the coast in La Jolla (a wealthy part of San Diego) and the house had a shooting range in the basement. The homeowner had quite a collection of firearms as well.

When people have lots of money, things that look ridiculous to most are trivial to them. Since this guy has solved the "storage" issue, dropping $10K on a gun is probably the easy part of the equation.

Apparently, Jay Leno (still) earns $15M a year, and has a net worth of $400M. His car collection is worth $50M.

All of these numbers are ridiculous, but most wouldn't begrudge Leno his car collection.

I doubt there's much particularly exotic in that gun collection. Heck, the M60 seemed to be a semi-automatic. When we were house hunting once, one of the house has a large gun safe, and that guy have a semi M60. That's pretty high up on the "pointless"' scale, to me, but to each their own.

I bet a bulk of those rifles in that collection are less than $2000.

It would be curious how many firearms I would have if I spent the money I have on throw away computer equipment on firearms instead. "$1000 for a 1GB SCSI drive! And, boy, was I excited!" No need to explain where that drive is today.
