What's the big deal about hiding your plate numbers? I mean it's always on display when you're out in public. I keep getting mixed responses, but the most common one is, "To protect my privacy."

If that's the case, you probably should keep your vehicles buried in a barrel, in a safe spot where only you know it is... and just walk/bike where you need to go in the dark shadows of the night.

But seriously, why?

I've always wondered about that.
Drive around with all the world to see your plates but cover them up when you post on Craigslist.

I paid good money for my plates. I'm not going to hide them in a photo. :x

(I have similar plates now, in a different color scheme.)

I just thought it was an internet habit of people who wanted to seem edgy but weren't. "I'm hiding my plates, because, you know, I've done....stuff." Like what? Be late on your HOA dues? Haven't paid that parking ticket? Didn't take out the trash like mom asked you to? :rolleyes

I've wondered about this as well. In theory someone can look up your place and figure out where you live/ registered the vehicle I guess? Probably an issue for craigslist but unless you're doing a bang-up job of making enemies I suppose it's not much of an issue on here?

I think that was the answer, some years ago and probably still is for a few, but nowadays I think people do it because other people do it. "Oh, he's hiding his plate, good idea, I should do that" not really knowing why, they probably think it protects their identity /privacy.

Btw, love the Thummpa plate:thumbup

I already had GRAMMPA on another motorcycle when I bought that bike, so it was the obvious choice, since it had the same four letters at the end. I bought the bike, rode it home, went over to the DMV and got it officially registered to me, stopped by the insurance office to get that straight, then went home and ordered the plate, all on the same day.

I would have gotten the same plate here in Idaho, but they only let you have six letters on motorcycles, even though they could easily fit seven on there. So it now has THUMPR. :cool

I posted the same question on a local Houston forum and got the complete opposite opinions on the matter.

I guess privacy laws are better here, for Californians. In Texas you can pretty much use any bit of information, to get a full report on anyone.

Post some pics of your KZ. I used to have a 94 KZ750 in that same paint scheme.

If someone posts their license plate, then someone can pay a PI a few bucks to correlate forum handle Gyrating Jim to Fred Sandusky, 1345 Morning Glory Way, Blythe CA.

Correlation is half the battle.

DMV info more protected in some states than others, but that doesn't mean its completely inaccessible to the public.

That would be cool if somebody paid a PI some money to find out my real name from the license plate photo that I posted. :cool

I think it is the privacy laws you have here. In Texas, we are WIDE OPEN to scrutiny. Anyways, I thought it was a good subject to discuss on and everyone seems to be on the same page here, which is nice to see :thumbup
