Hey Mike:

Was just wondering what ya think of these kinda' small bore trackbikes for fun and practice? How does one get started with 'em? Schools and stuff? They look like a blast!

I have a few friends who do this sort of racing, they seem to be really into it. I gave it a try once, it seemed much more fun and laid back than what I was used to.

It may be a good introduction to racing for younger folk, but the skills necessary to successfully get one of these tiny bikes around a tight road course might not necessarily transfer over to larger bikes on a full sized road course. I've seen a few people struggle while making the transition.

At the same time, I think both Rossi and Haga started on minimotos.

Either way, it's a fun way to spend an afternoon out with fellow competitors, at a mere fraction of the cost and risk involved with full size motorcycle racing.

Check this site out for more information, if what you are looking for isn't on there, it will likely have links to whatever it is you are looking for:

Have fun,

Thanks for the info Mike :) this bike is a small bike (think 250 ninja size or non-regulation scooter) but not a pocketbike so the hunt for info continues.

Just read your list of sponsors, are you still racing and what are the requirements for sponsoring you? like if barf wanted a spot on your race bike, etc.

Max the ns has a seat height of about 30" to 31', but it is very narrow. the racer put 125 wheels on them and run slicks. We have a couple of aprilla rs50s out here too. The ysr has a seat height of about 28", and when in superbike mode can reach speads up to 60 to 65 mph if geared right.

thanks for all the info & pm's! surf'd around some more and can see the mito's are the shit but will be hard to find one reg'd for street and not thrashed? the 'prillers look good too at least mucho parts available and bike is still in production. don't know where I'm going with all this but at least expanding my horizons a bit.

ya just never know :D

ahhh, just (re)discovered the Spanish "Derbi" small bore bikes too, remember seeing ads for those before. prices all over the map. everyone says "never raced" "under 1,000 miles" I don't think so!!! heck it's a fun thrash just to get to 60mph?
