Oregon?

Hey gang, I've ridden in Oregon quite a bit but still have lots to explore, I prefer back roads, scenic areas oh and of course TWISTIES! :teeth

Any suggestions for my next trip? Probly going in Mid June and Eastern Oregon is likely as I have been on the coast a lot and in June dont want to get stuck behind long lines of RV's.

Areas I have been.

Up & down the coast hwy 1.
WEST : Hwy 34, 36, 20,
EAST : Hwy 20, 22, 26, 35, 122, 207, 19, 395 / 84 ( The Gorge )

7 Baker City to Sumpter (gold dredge and steam train).
205 between Burns and Fields (antelope range and bird wetlands).
Dead Indian Memorial Rd northeast out of Ashland.
Grayback road between Happy Camp CA and Cave Junction OR.
218 Shaniko - Antelope - Clarno - Fossil.
242 McKenzie Hwy to Sisters.

Most of the FS roads through the Blue Mts. are well maintained.


A plethora of fairly good pavement inland.
Look out for green slime in the corners from cow trailers.
Hwy 1 is a paint shaker from over use. Beautiful though.

Might want to look at the official State of Oregon Motorcycle Map or the Butler Maps Oregon map for recommended roads you haven't ridden and choose from those.

From Ashland you could ride 66 to 140 to Denio Junction NV, then north, making your way to Hells Canyon. You might be repeating stuff you've ridden from when you hit 395 to when you left 26 on 7.

More promising on a bicycle. I'd been thinking of cycling it next weekend.

One link I found said it was scheduled to open to motorized traffic June 16th, but the year wasn't given, and it might not be current. Might not be open for a mid-June moto trip.

I'm headed that way next weekend. 97-> 20 -> 22 -> hanging a right to Breitenbush up to 224. The last section I'm concerned a bit about it's labeled as NF-46 up to Ripplebrook.
Any idea where can I find info about that section?

242/McKenzie Pass highway opened yesterday (Monday 6/17) to motorized traffic. I got it just in time (Sunday) on my bicycle.

There were slightly loose areas of road repair on the east side, but they were visually obvious. If I were up there with a motorcycle, I'd ride it.

7 Baker City to Sumpter (gold dredge and steam train).

This whole area is fantastic. From 7 just west of Baker City, 245 is good for a quick trip down and back up. Continue following 7 west through Sumpter as it turns into NF-73 then 52 all the way into Ukiah is a wonderful ride, but watch for deer and probably potholes in some spots.

I'm not sure how far north you want to go, but a trip up 129 is worth it if you're even remotely nearby. That will take you into Idaho up Rattlesnake Grade and eventually you hit Lewiston where you can ride Spiral Highway (my avatar pic location) just across the boarder in Washington. From there you could take 95 down through Idaho and back into Oregon. These locations will be HOT in the middle of summer.

That road is one of my most favorite roads ever, I rode it from Detroit to Encatada (sp?). It's narrow, but great, I think it will put a smile on your face.

Ride to Hells Canyon on the Oregon/Idaho border. Nice twisties along the Snake River there.

Many miles of stuff like this:

I prefer to go in on Highway 71 from Cambridge, ID, but you can also get there on Highway 86 out of Baker City, OR. Ride north until the road ends.

I'll 2nd bcj's suggestions. Ive ridden N/E Oregon numerous times and its GREAT! Also hit 245.

It was an awesome route. Lots of sport bikes carving the twisties. Really the whole route from Sisters to Clackamas was great! There was really no traffic coming in from Detroit but I began seeing more an more cars as I neared Estacada.

I can't stop talking about that road, so it probably was.
I will be moving to Bend next year so I'll be even closer to all these amazing adventures.
