AFM 439
Went to the International Motorcycle Show today with Peter Smith (started racing in the AFM in the late 70's) and saw Rich Kauzlarich's Kawasaki H2 there. I've heard it run before...it's pretty sweet. It's funny...we hadn't seen him in more than 20 years when we saw him at JoMo's service at Sears Point, and now we've run into him 3 times since then :)

Look closely at the middle photo on the left and you'll see Marty Siegel (RIP)

Sorry for the multiple posts. This is the one that made me want to share. Mike is the oldest friend I have that I still keep in touch with. We met in '75, possibly earlier. We ride together whenever possible and stay in touch via e-mail. If any of his lod friends want contact info, shoot me a PM. Give me a brief anecdote about how you know him and I'll be happy to put you in touch. :thumbup

Bay Area Grassroots. Those were good days. Yamaha was so raw back then.

Dainese before it was the D Store.

I still have those Dainese leathers in my garage. Not the Eddie Lawson Bell helmet...wish I would have keep the whole package...mainly the RZ500. Young and dumb back then. :afm199

Paul Vogel is still riding, and riding fast. I see him at Keigwins 15 times a year or so. That little guy is quick.

I Don't Do GPS
The grid is filling up fast in heaven, as Kevin Rentzell was called home yesterday due to a vehicle accident.

Race in peace, Revvin' Kevin Rentzell...

AFM 439
Me leading the race and former AFM #1 Walt Nitto Jr. circa '85

Me behind Schwantz, ahead of Rich Oliver. Jim Jepsen, Glen Shopher and Tom Aquino are in there somewhere. Don't know their numbers.

Bob Okano's, possibly Bob O, (lived in Sunnyvale) pic of Gary Nixon on an Irv Kanemoto. tuned TZ 750 at a Sears National race. I'm behind on Randy Mamola's old B model TZ 250. It was open practice. Sweet memories! :afm199

Post image did something disabling old links. Replaced photos. Unable to edit original post. :rolleyes

total wow thread. raced a little after most of these guys but knew many.

Thanks for these posts. WoodsChick you got a good thing going! Now if I could just see some of those pictures between '89 and '93! Something someone mentioned was that they wish they had more "people" pictures from their racing days. Hell I wish I just had SOME pictures of my racing days! Sadly I always thought it was egotistical to buy pictures of myself from some of the vendors that were at Sears in those days. I have some bike pictures I took but little riding or visiting. I would love to have some records of those days!
I built several good bikes for Superstreet. Both 600 and 1000. I know the 1000 was a rocket as I later took it out of mothballs and let Pete Wenslof former AFM #1 ride it at Thunderhill where He and Steve Rapp got into it. My 1000 was the only one to pass Steve's Suzuki on a straight!
I was often in the top 5 in the 600 SS races and despite being way bigger than the typical 600 pilots at 220 pounds! I remember Dwane Chung was just finishing his racing as I was starting. John Freyer got #1 on a radically modified FZ (not FZR!) 600. Good racing and many now famous names came out of those years.
Bill Jepson #756 (No relation to Jim #788 who was before my time.)

I Don't Do GPS
Hi, Bill! Welcome to BARF!

Sorry about the photos. Unfortunately a ton of my older photos are hosted on PhotoBucket and they've been down for more than 24 hours :mad
I fully expect them to show up once PB pulls their head out of their ass (again) and takes care of their business. I use SmugMug now and they are about 1000% better. I've even started replacing PB photos in my ride reports with SmugMug links so that this doesn't happen again in the future. Ugh...anyway...

It might be worth it to find out who was taking/selling those track photos back in the day. Chances are the photographers still have the slides (or film, or whatever they used) and could produce a photo for you. Not egotistical at all. It's your history, and there's nothing better than old photos!

The last time I saw Fryer's FZ600 it was in his living room, looking beautiful parked on his hardwood floors :laughing I had the same bike at the time and was wishing mine was as fast as his :)

Many remembered faces

Thanks, WoodsChick!
There are many people who were still at it after I started. Dwayne Chung was in our home built enclosed trailer a couple times. I remember Tom Montano and his 400/600 ‘‘tisk tisk. Most of the pictures were just before my race days but good memories.
Thanks for the awesome job!

83 to 93 was my time and all these names ring so many bells. Great times when Young happy not much in responsibilities yet.. Not complaining now but it was simply different, build a bike go race it.
