San Jose Sharks and hockey fans unite here, because we aren't going to games any time soon!

Season approved by the League and NHLPA, the 2021 season is a GO.

Keep in mind new division alignments and a now all Canadian division.

Sharks training camp to begin in Arizona thanks to COVID lockdown restrictions in Santa Clara County. https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/12/28/sharks-in-scottsdale-what-you-need-to-know-ahead-of-training-camp/

Draft well as a 56 game season should see less injury to high profile players. :thumbup:twofinger

Yeah I heard about that one, hopefully SJ City Council realizes their economic troubles and the benefits of keeping the Sharks in town.

Ofcourse i paid for nhl.tv early 2020, that and dazn, first time ever really paying for sports packages. What a fucking disappointment those have been. Probably won't pay for either again, nhl coming up for renewal

burnzie has a role on Vikings! I haven't watched it yet, but maybe I should give it a try now.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/12/31/brent-burns-describes-his-cameo-appearance-in-vikings/
quote:
Burns, the 2017 Norris Trophy winner and one of the NHL’s recognizable and popular players with his prodigious beard, makes a guest appearance in the dramatic series “Vikings.” He plays Skane, an “ally” to King Harald, who is portrayed by Finnish-born actor Peter Franzén. The final 10 episodes of the series, and the two Burns appears in — The Signal and Lost Souls — became available on Amazon Prime earlier this week

We'll see if they ever play a game again at SAP. With all the construction from GooglePlex, they aren't providing access to SAP or some other BS.

City should just work out something with Adobe or PWC or one of the other nearby companies who have massive parking garages that will sit empty during games. Split the costs of cleaning or whatever but it would at least still be roughly walking distance to the Shark Tank during construction. I've been eyeballing the area as a spot to buy a townhouse / condo because that shit is going to be prime real estate in 10 years after google moves in.

I looked into the NHL playing at Lake Tahoe, looks like it will be at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort.

I don't know about you guys, but from a golfing perspective that is a steep $200/person green few during the golf season. I imagine that since the location is in Washoe County, NV, an attending crowd would be permitted to enter. But I'm sure the price will be through the roof.

Considered going, decided against to save a kidney.

They aren't allowing spectators. Only the 400 media, staff, and volunteers.

Question is, is it outside?

If so, perhaps you could rent a room in one of the higher towers and view it from the room or balcony or something.. :)

Sharks are welcome to move to Sacramento, we could use another team here!

Yes, its outside on one of the ponds for the resort's golf course.
I would have LOVED to have just rolled down to south lake and taken in an outdoor NHL game.

That was one of the most exciting to disappointing news I read in a while

It's a complete loss for the San Jose Sharks and Sharks fans, granted the venue is on the NV side of the stateline, but most people associate Lake Tahoe to CA.

yeah I don't get why the Sharks wouldn't be the first team to invite to a tahoe event

My best guess is a ratings/competitive decision. Sharks gifted OTT with a top 5 pick, VGK still riding the Cinderella story.

In other news, Canada vs USA for Gold in the IIHF World Junior (U-20) Championship. Some game notes from the top of my head, Canada has yet to surrender an even strength goal, USA has top PP and top 3 PK.

Researched:
CAN Dylan Cozens (BUF prospect): 8-8-16 +12 leads tournament in stats
USA Trevor Zegras (ANA prospect): 6-10-16 +7 expect to see this one in the near future

Both 19 years old :party

yeah the karlsson trade has hurt them pretty bad. no cap space, old players. too bad it didn't work out for jumbo and patty (although he's back for reasons). goaltending has been a key to success for pretty much all nhl teams. the Sharks just haven't gotten very lucky for a long time with goalies. sucks. Dubnyk's not the answer either.

Agreed, not since Nabokov have the Sharks had a sustained tenure of solid goaltending. Niemi had his spark, Jones had his spark, and Dubnyk had his spark before landing in SJ. Perhaps by sheer hockey gods miracle, Dubby can find that spark again, but I'm not holding my breath.

In other new, Team USA takes the GOLD in World Juniors!

2-0 victory over Team Canada.

Zegras named Tournament MVP. USA goalie Spencer Knight (FLA prospect) earned another shutout.

Game 1 is officially a W.

Highlights I noticed:

Martin Jones looking like his old self.

EK65 still garbage on defense.

Defense is lacking.

EK9 looking solid with 3 pts.

Hertl is a goal scorer.

Prospect standout: John Leonard...remember this name.

I only was able to watch some of the highlights and a few random minutes on a late night reply.

I feel our defense always leaves our goalies out to dry. Then eventually our good goalies lose confidence.

Couldn't agree more. It would seem that having so many proven offensive defensemen has left the actual "defense" out of the equation.
