Montana to allow lane splitting...

I like the wording of the Montana law. Definitely better than the one they came up with in Utah that mentions a speed limit. If traffic is stopped, how is the speed limit on the road where you're filtering relevant?

That is exactly why CA codifying it was such a big deal. Oregon next?? Our Bros and Sisters in Washington are hoping. And hell yes Arizona and Texas among others needs some relief.
...

Let's hope drivers in the states that are adopting new laws make a effort to educate the public.
Experience tells me, that like California, there may be refuseniks expressing their rage At Riders when they start to see riders filtering through.

Yellowstone Country, Western Montana and Eastern Idaho drivers aren't wound up as tight as the are in the Bay Area, but many of them drive 3/4 ton duellies and are armed, so you don't want to cause any undo excitement out on the road.

If Idaho eventually gets filtering added to the law, I would expect to carry along handouts explaining the law, to give to anybody complaining about it.

In the Seattle area riders do it without much of an issue. Get into the red side of the state and you'll likely get lifted trucks swerving at you or opening doors.

Sure it is. You are helping to alleviate the congestion. Win Win IMO.

As a possible retirement State this makes me smile :teeth

Oh man , I too. Montana is high on my list! I hope we end up as neighbors !! :party
By the time I can retire I have a feeling I’ll be able to split lanes but won’t be able to afford housing. :laughing

Be sure to visit there in the winter so that you know what you'll be getting into for several months of the year.

Was -48 in West Yellowstone just a week ago. But my friend who runs Blue Ribbon Flies says they're fishing every day.

Used to get that treatment every summer going to Santa Cruz.

I illegally lane split in Portland OR once. It was just too hot, too much traffic and I was ATGATT in my 1 piece textile suit.

A friend stuck in similar traffic on his Moto was getting heat exhaustion in stop and go traffic and had to pull over. Electric motos are nice in the summer.

A pick up truck driver yelled at me impressibly loud by the volume that penetrated my helmet and ear plugs.

Oregon has the special talent of setting speed limits 15mph slower than anywhere else, and having cars drive another 15mph below that limit.
