Marin Headlands, Bicentennial Campground ...

... on a whim, I called the Marin Headlands Visitor Center on Thursday to see if they had a spot for me at the Bicentennial Campground for Saturday night ... to my surprise, they did ... :ride

... Saturday morning ... time to ride! :party

... so, my brother-in-law, who grew up in Marin, turned
me on to the Bicentennial Campground ... there are just
three camp sites, no fires, no pets, no water ... have to
walk in down hill maybe a hundred yards ...

... for years, you could simply call the Visitor Center for a
free reservation ... but, turns out that this was the last
weekend you'd be able to do that ...

Bicentennial Campground
OPEN SEASON: to January 31, 2018; Closed February, Reopens March 11
FEE: Camping FREE until January 31; $20 starting March 11

Reservations - For reservations on or after March 11, 2018 call 1-877-444-6777, or reserve online at Recreation.gov.

To reserve a camp site up to January 31, 2018, call (415) 331-1540, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM.

... despite having to walk in and that there are no campfires
and no water I'd say that because Bicentennial Campground is in such a spectacular part of the world they decided to turn it over to the
state-wide reservation system and I guess that system requires
that they charge a fee ... :dunno

... anyway, soon enough, I was there ...

… and camp, all set up …

Rad! You and your eternal need to camp. I'm amazed you survived without a campfire.

... someone taught me the candle trick ... :laughing:thumbup

... it was my kind of ride (short), so I had lots
of time to watch the day go by ...

... and ready to head back to Lower Haight ...
short and sweet ... :ride

... I learned a lesson recently with the
fee increase over Tiaoga Pass from $10
to whatever it is now ... which is to
remember to pay $20 at Bicentennial Campground
before they raise the fee to $40 ... :laughing

... next on my list is Kirby Cove, an even shorter ride ... :teeth

see you around
the camp-candle, :angel

Nice I didn't know there was a place to camp there, will have to check it out. I want to do a lap of the bay sometime in the KLR. Great views there for sure :)

... cool bike! :ride

... yes, my brother-in-law told me about Bicentennial ...
I never knew about it either ... :thumbup

Kirby Cove is next on my list ...
there is a group campsite there
that may be fun ... want to see if it is like Steep Ravine,
where they give you the gate combo and let you
ride down and park near the campsite ...

... unlike Bicentennial, Kirby Cove has a national reputation
as a spectacular campground, so getting a reservation
is more of a process ... :laughing
