Well home now and feeling better, surgery went very well, nerve pain reduction obvious and I am very happy it's over. Kindaa fuky up on Oxy right now and will be for several days.

Gonna be months before the doc will let me put any weight on the shoulders, unfortunately. Though I should be allowed a bicycle on rollers in six weeks or so, I am hoping.

Both. Six inch incision in back, three in front.

1. Cervical Laminoplasty three or more levels
2. Cervical posterior instrumentation, 2-5 levels ( four in fact)
3. Cervical disectomy anterior, 1 level ( C4-5)
4. Cervical application of interbody fusion device, cage, 1 level
5. Cervical anterior instrumentation 2 levels
Application of Halo for procedure.
7 hours under the knife. I felt like a zombie when I came to.

I will have a pic of the posterior device, it's like fine furniture, really well put together. My surgeon is also a fine woodworker. Here's a pic of the posterior site.

Thank you, Budman! Kudos to my surgeon, Dr. Slucky. He was willing to undertake this and put it all together. I was nervous as fack about it, but he was really reassuring. He said that people who stay in shape have very few problems with the surgery, that's the ticket, so super glad I've spent time working out, for sure. Glad it's over, that is for sure, lol.

Well recovery continues well, the doc is amazed at how quickly I have bounced back, but still taking it easy for weeks to come. Pain levels gratefully down to annoying rather than debilitating, like a kid on my lawn.

Really glad to hear it's going so well. I had a similarly fast bounce back from my procedure too but was very careful about the muscles that had been detached and reattached. Regular walks, several times a day were very helpful.

Eight months out, I free soloed a 120' frozen waterfall and sent a photo to the surgeon. He was stoked, which reinforced that I'd found the right guy, as it sound like you did.

Right on, Andy. Thanks. I'm at that point now, where I want to hop a bicycle trainer and go, but I won't put any muscle strain into my neck for some time to come. Six weeks sounds perfect. i'm walking daily and doing stuff like dishes and light housecleaning.

Just got the bill for the surgery, just about $250k. I'm on the hook for $480 total. Damn.
