Last time I raced with another club (WMRRA) I emailed licensing@afmracing.org and they sent a digital copy of my license. Showed the guy at registration on my phone and he said 'ok'. No drama.

AFM hasn't sent hard cards for several years now, plenty of AFMers race at CVMA in the winter, so it must not be an issue there either.

From February BOD notes:

Hard cards were reviewed. Allie indicated MSR does have the capability for hard cards and the option for third party printing services is available. B.O.D. discussed the pros and cons of outsourcing hard cards/member packets and agreed to pursue third party printing and mailing services for now, with the option to transition back to in-house for the 2020 season.

Action: Continue dialogue with MSR on hard cards and review template options, pricing, and timing. Start dialogue on inserts for member packets including brochures, stickers, and information for new racers.

I get that we strive to function in a paperless world. But how about..... literally anything tangible in return for paying our fees to be members?

It certainly makes a nice keepsake. I'd like to have had a memento from the last few seasons. We used to get stickers with the AFM logo and our numbers too but I haven't seen those in a year or two now.

I miss the decals that used to come with license packets :(

Having a hard card would be a good thing for members, could help the AFM too if they played their hard cards right

I am pretty sure I got decals last year.

Hmmm, I have not received any racer packet for the last couple of years, just an email receipt for my license fees :(

Agreed. IIRC, as recently as just a few years ago you used to get an envelope in the mail with your license card, a rule book, and AFM decals. The personalized decals with your name/# were an especially nice touch. Now you get jack shit.

I recently joined District 36 for off-road racing; they send a membership card and a decal. The AMA sends you a card and a cool lapel pin. Even my rinky dink Northern Nevada desert racing club, MRANN, sends you a membership card and a nice little 'welcome note'. Not sure why AFM (who's membership costs way more by the way) can't manage a little something to say welcome to the club.

isnt the AFM staffed mostly by part-time volunteers that arent getting paid? no one should wonder why the AFM "cant manage" to accomplish significantly more than the bare minimum.

You would consider sending a membership card declaring me a member of a club I joined "significantly more" than the bare minimum?

People are constantly asking about their membership cards, so obviously it's important to them. The AFM has members who don't even race, they just buy a membership to support the club (or keep their number :laughing). You think giving them a plastic card declaring them a member in exchange for their $165 is just too much for the volunteers to manage?

I think there are 1000 things more important than membership cards and only so many hours that a volunteer is willing to give to the club.

Anyone in here could volunteer to do it. Make a card design, get a quote for making the cards, submit it to AFM for approval and payment, get them printed, and then mail them to everyone. It’s a lot of fun mailing out hundreds of items (sarcasm). Might only take one person 8-12hrs of real work to do all that, although it could be 3x that long too. Who wants to do it for free?

I used to have mine behind my Drivers license so when the cute bar tender asked to check my ID..I could look "cool"...oh the days of being single. I was like revving my car or bike..never worked lol

Yes, that is a good point. If only there were some people willing to volunteer their time to help out the club for free.

Oh, wait...

:laughing, focusing on that statement while ignoring the one before is silly. ill spell it out for u. i bet the AFM could use more volunteers, especially if u want membership cards.
