MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
Few months ago I posted on BARF about finding my subframe cracked on the 2002 VFR which somehow got around on other message boards but was considered by most an isolated problem but with a few similar cases reported as well.....
Honda is now sending out letters as a " Factory Upgrade Campaign" to reenforce the questionable area on the subframe by putting a plate around it or replace the entire subframe with an upgraded one if there are stress cracks found on it, such as mine .....
I never crashed/dropped/ or modified my rear fender but by observing the subframe, it was obvious that the rear fender was the cause of the crack and after following another 2002-2003 VFR, I saw that the fender even on that bike would shake extensively......
Strangely, and perhaps by luck, although the Honda Warranty rep denied ever hearing about such a case, he immediately shipped the new one out to be replaced overnight and wanted the original one sent to him immediately....
I found out that my cracked frame was immediately sent to Honda Japan for investigation after Honda America had other similar reports as well....
Anyone else with an 02-03 VFR might consider calling up their dealer for more info if they haven't gotten the letter yet by Honda because its worth preventing it rather than having to ride with the seat/rear section of the bike move around such as I was before I found out....
Regards,
