Is Marc Marquez going to come back?

R3DS!X

Whatever that means
Seems he has had plenty of time to heal and I haven't heard any word of him being back on a bike of any sort. I've also heard rumors that Dovi will be testing on Honda with the chance of being promoted to factory rider. Of course this is rumor and speculation but it's fun to do.

What if Marc's arm was too badly rebroken and there was nerve damage that he was hoping would have been reduced or alleviated with Physical therapy. He should have enough time to heal by now but the fact he isn't coming to Valencia for at least a FP1 session makes me thing something might be very wrong for him. possibly career ending. Honda hasn't been vocal about anything regarding their golden boy so that also has me worried.

I think similarly- that going out for practice with a fresh plate and screws actually did a bunch of damage, that he's in a ton of pain and not healing well, and that they're banking on letting him heal up and that he may be back next year- or may not.

Maybe he's thinking that since he missed a few races anyway, and there's no chance of winning the championship, why bother risking his recovery? It's kind of a throw-away season. Fully heal up and come back next year to race for tall podium spot against his brother.

Theres 0 benefit to riding an FP this year, especially if hes not going to race. He knows he can win races when healthy. He doesnt needs to ride a GP bike NOW against competition to test if hes healthy. He can ride a SBK or wait til winter testing. What's the up-side? IMO MM not riding tells us that he knows he cant win, that's it.

I do think his injury is serious. But we do not know how serious and probably wont know until hes back winning. All this "hes definitely going to race this year or hes dead" is just drama/speculation from the announcers.

I watched a video of him watching his brother Alex, racing at Aragon. He had to use his left hand to lift his right arm. That would suggest nerve damage maybe. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery. He did manage to come back from his eyeball problems.

Enough time to heal is relative to a MotoGP rider. A mere human would not consider this time period enough time in my mind.

I think they are being smart to ensure he is almost fully fit to allow him to possibly win.

+1, but needing assist to lift his arm does not sound good.

I had a motorcycle accident in high school that resulted in nerve damage in my right shoulder. I couldn’t lift my arm at all, it just hung there and all the muscles in my shoulder atrophied away. It was startling to see an otherwise healthy 16 year old with nothing for a shoulder. It was devastating on many levels. I could no longer shoot archery, play soccer, or do most things without difficulty. Hell I couldn’t even drive since my car was a manual. But alas, peripheral nerves grow back. It’s a slow process at about 1mm a day. As long as the mylan sheath isn’t damaged the nerves will grow back to their original position. It took about 8 months before I got full motor function back. Once that happened strength came back surprisingly fast.

Mind you this was back in 1991/1992 so I don’t know if there have been any medical breakthroughs since that would foster/promote quicker nerve regeneration. Although it wouldn’t be surprising give recent technology with stem cells.

I’m not saying that MM has or had nerve damage, or that he will 100% return, but given my experience I certainly wouldn’t bet against someone as superhuman as him.

I wrote about the break and the radial nerve when it happened. I don't think that anyone has really been honest about it, from his camp.

The structure of the bone and the placement of the nerve make it so easy for permanent nerve damage to happen, and that's without any visible damage to the nerve.

I'm going in for my operation in ten days to correct/stop nerve damage. It's pretty much a given that I will be lucky to see any improvement beyond what has happened in the last nine months.

I truly don't wish it on him, and hope he races again. But I also am disgusted with how his people have lied and misled about his condition, and encouraged him to further injure himself. There's so much money (tens to hundreds of millions) resting on his shoulders, and so many rice bowls that depend on him that it's really hard to resist the pressure.

I agree with the armchair diagnosis of nerve damage. Stefan Bradl told a reporter a week or two ago that he (Bradl) was told he'd be riding out the rest of the season on the Honda factory bike, which makes it pretty clear #93 will not be riding this season and they just aren't announcing it.

And to piss everyone off about HRC tight-lipped bullshit, Bradl supposedly retracted that statement about riding the rest of the season.

Haha, yeah he retracted the statement with Aberto Puig standing there holding a gun to his mother's head as he signed the retraction. :cool

I think he will come back, but he now knows how fragile his legacy is so I'm not sure if he'll be as fast as he was before the injury. He will still be fast as hell but I don't know if we'll see him take as many risks

It's a funny thing that happens to racers. That really bad crash, or injury that is never quite right again, changes their style. MM93 was superman. Will he be when he comes back? We'll see.

When will BARF finally accept the results

that :afm199 was right and 93 would never beat Rossi as GOAT due to his reckless riding leading to an early retirement...!!!!

Thank you! It's good to get recognition for courageous and incisive prognostication, albeit a bit late. :laughing

Did I really say never beat Rossi? It's been so long I can't remember. :laughing

Yes, he'll be back.

He will not be the same rider due to the arm and will have issues the remainder of his career.
