That's right, under all the muck and grease, I have a gold chain on my 929. :D

So, my question is...how do I go about cleaning it so it is all nice and shiny, but won't harm it??

Thanks

jack up the rear from a borrowed rear stand after u rode it for a few miles ot warm up the chain and grab a rag and some gasoline and start scrubbin away. a brush would be useful too. dont forget to lube it up afterwards. just start it and let it out in first and the rear tire spins, hold the rag agains the chain and let the chain slide through. lube up the same way also.

risk free way (wiggles all fingers, yep still there) same as above but spin rear tire clockwise by hand. spray WD40 liberally at the inside/outside of spinning chain. then you can brace your left hand (holding a rag) against the peg to wipe chain clean. repeat as needed, maybe use a toothbrush or "grunge brush" on spinning chain. follow with chain lube/wax of your choice. check and adjust chain tension now also but RTFM some bikes must check on the kickstand not rear stand.

oh yeah piece of cardboard or newspaper to catch the drippings (mmm, mmm good!) :D

NNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Drop the gas can this instant and step away. Never use gas on an O-ring chain. Gasoline and rubber do not get along. Use a rag soaked in kerosene to wipe off the chain first, then get a brush and brush the chain a little , then go back the kerosene rag. Once it looks like all the gunk is lose use a dry rag and wipe the chain clean and dry. After all that look at the chain to make sure it is clean and then apply you chain lube of choice.

How about I buy a grunge brush from Milpitas Honda and the degreaser, and then scrub it up with that. Then, use the chain wax I bought from Milpitas Honda to lube it up again. :D

Thanks guys.

Anyone wanna come help...??? Ravi?? Steve, Jim, Leo...??? ANYONE!!!???!!!

I just did Vixens about a half hour ago. Put it up on a rear wheel stand, soak it with WD40, let it sit, clean it off. Soak it some more, let it sit, clean it off then put on your lube. I use that PJ1 Blue label stuff......one coat, let it settle, then one more and I'm done.

I did the chain, it looks pretty sweet. I dunno if I got enough lube on the damn thing or not, but...oh well. :D

Now all I gotta do is get someone to bring me a torque wrench and a deep well socket so I can put them on. :D

WTF do you need a torque wrench and socket for if you're lubing the chain?!? Or are you also adjusting the chain tension also...?

Haha. Exactly what I was thinking. I'd never put my bike in gear while up on the stand!

And if you use a brush make sure it's a plastick bristle brush and not a metal brush. Kinda common sense but just in case.:D

As far as "ENOUGH" chain lube goes... remember the purpose of lubing an O-Ring chain. You are not lubricating the chain... you are softening the o-rings. So... a very tiny amount. (Looks at rear wheel .. yep .. 0 fling) Keeps it clean also :burnout

You should never have the bike in gear with your hands near the drivechain either. Lots of places to get pinched, pulled, maimed, injured, etc. Its hard to shift with no left fingers...
