Has this ever happened to you?

On Saturday, I was all ready to ride and pile on some more miles. I had Gaulala and Skaggs -- a nice 260-mile loop -- on my mind. After a pastry and a cup of hot apple cider at my favorite place in Tomales, I hopped on my bike… and thought…

I have ridden the three pervious days.

I have had enough of the cold and wind.

I have had enough of the scent-ful public toilets and porta-potties.:green

My nuts could use a break from being constantly crunchy.

That John Wayne walk, from straddling my steed for so long, ain't doing much to draw chicks.

I crave for my clean and comfy toilet bowl at home.

A day of mindless TV/DVD in my Aerostich would be nice too.

Crank up that wall heater.

BBQ some pork short ribbs.

Lounge while sipping my 21-year-old Chivas.

Be lazy.

Yes, that sounds nice.

First time in a long while, I felt I had enough… 80-mile is enough… I was already the first one on the road… no need to be the last one as well… So I headed home to execute my domestic plans.

What's wrong with me?:laughing

:wow :wow :wow I don't know what to say, Tom. I'm in shock. Have you seen a doctor about this?

The kicker of it all is that I ride so I wouldn't have to see a shrink. Maybe it's time to strap on the ski boots and see some snow angels for a change:laughing

Hey Tom,

that happens to me all the time, usually whenever the alarm clock goes off before 10am. :laughing

on the serious side, I think it's good to know (and admit to yourself) when you're not totally up for riding or a certain kind of riding. not being really into it can lend to making one's focus less than optimal. hope you had fun sipping the Chivas :staRang

Yeah! I gave up one saturday this summer when the alarm went off @ 5:30 & went back to sleep. I, however, did the planned ride the next day though :)

ummm, All sierra passes are closed, the north is all wet. I think I am going to go ride 178 & nearby roads this weekend...anyone interested?

Tom, yeah, skiing might help. I tried snow boarding last tuesday; riding 15 hours is easier.

Looks like you found a road that's not on Pashnit? Thinking real hard about going... Is this a one day or 2-day jaunt?

:cry I am already dreading that slow burn coming down the first run... Wait, did you say snow boarding, for the first time? So you exchanged a pair of crunchy nuts for a crunchy tailbone? Nice going... :laughing

Gaulala!!! Did you read the write up in Friction Zone? That place sounds cool. I want to stay at the hotel that they mentioned.
The place sounds great, but very expensive$$$$.
It's good to listen to your inner voice- hell, there could have been an accident right around your favorite corner and you would have hit it?? Who knows? On rainy cold days, I wuss out alot. I once backed out of a backpacking trip (I was alone) because I did not 'feel right'. Good luck next time. Save some of that Chivas for me!!!!

Lefty, it's a very fun ride going up to Gualala and further. When I went up there with Waterboy (Tim), he picked a great hotel/restaurant for lunch. I used to just ride through or gas up in Gualala. Now I have a reason to actually stop and hang a while.

A stop in Sea Ranch (20 miles south of Gualala) is pretty cool too. They have a decent restaurant, restroom facility, and a short trail by the seaside.

Yeap, the hotels there are expensive. It's probably a bit far for you coming from Menlo Park, but it's do-able in one day when we have longer daylight.
