GSA tires

I've got a 2020 BMW GSA with the factory Bridgestone A41s already down to the wear bars at 4200 miles. That seems pretty shitty to me but I'm new to the ADV thing & the GSA is one big heavy machine. I don't want to get in the dirt just yet so I'm thinking about trying the new Continental Trail attack 3s next. Have any other GS owners tried these out yet?

Have you considered the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires? Folks are getting a lot of miles out of them and when you do decide to go on dirt, they're supposed to be pretty good.

If you got 4200 miles from a set of AX41's, that's 1000 miles better than I got from the original TKC-80 tires that came on my KTM 1090R. I currently have AX41 tires on my 790R and feel like I'm about half way done with them at about 1800 miles. They're excellent off road, where I spend a lot of time, so I expect to continue to use that tire.

If you want big mileage, look at the Heidenau K60 Scout. I managed 8000 miles on a rear on a KTM 990 Adventure. That's more miles that I've ever gotten from any rear tire on any bike. I thought they were great on the street while still decent enough off road. I currently have a set that I use on my XR650L. They're my "street" tires, but still good enough for most off road riding. I have another set of rims with the "dirt" tires for that bike.

I started this thread about adventure tire comparison, which has the details about the ones that are good off road: https://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542393

I've been running Shinko 705s for the last 70K miles on my 2014 GS due to lower cost and miles ridden. They have a faster turn in, but stick great and work well on fire roads. If you don't ride lots of miles. I tried the Heidenau K60 Scout and If I was riding to Alaska, that would be my choice . Trail Max looks like a great tire.

I agree on the Shinko 705. I don't like them for serious rides in the dirt, but they're great on pavement and it's hard to beat the price.

Been running Anakee III tires for a long time. Great 90/10 tire. Dual compound for long life and good grip.

I ride strictly pavement (too heavy to pick up single) but I usually get > 10k mi out of my Michelin Plot Road 4/5s. My older model 1200 GSA with 100hp obviously isn't a MotoGP bike, although fast enough for me.

Michelin Road 5 trails. keep the pressure up and they will last a long time. I got 10K out of my last set and I ride hard!

ScottRNelson,

My GSA came with A41 not AX41 tires. They are like an 80/20 or 85/15 road to dirt ratio tread pattern. Bridgestone call it "an on road touring tire with high wet performance and long wear life" but they burned out pretty quick.

I agree with Dravnx that the Michelin Anakee III is a great tire. Now that the Anakee adventure is out, the price has dropped considerably. I'm on my second set after getting over 18K miles from the first. Front and rear wore at about the same rate.

i raelly like the dunlop trail mission tires, they look nobby enough, but my biggest problem with the, in Chapmoto's review of all adv tires, this is the heaviest tire, twisce the weight of most tires they reviewed. so im on the border

I ended up getting the Michelin Plot Road 5s, I 'm going to stick to the street for now while i get used to riding this big GSA. I came off of a really light bike and no matter how great the GSA handles I always feel it's mass. Hopefully that goes away with seat time.

I recently went 80/20 tire shopping for my 1290 SAS and purchased the Anakee Adventure. So far loving it! Like others have pointed the Trailmax Missions seem to be really good for a 50/50 although a bit pricey.

I found this video quite helpful.

On my super tenere (same sizes as GS) I rode 705s for a long time and they are great in general but I got tired of the marginal cold/wet grip. Ran a set of Anakee 3s and they wore like shit. Had them off before they were done because they were done. Then Anakee Wilds which I love, but they don’t last long (duh) and they do give up some road grip at high lean....so for normal riding I’ve been running Anakee Adventures. Great grip, even wear, reasonably long life, and good in gravel. I will keep running them when I don’t need knobs on.

I've been running the Shinkos 705 for a few years now. They're a great all around tire. They've seen lots of twisties and lots of dirt. They handle everything well. Of course I'd rather have a Michelin Pilot on the road and some Motoz in the dirt? Hell yeah. but I'm not going to change my tires for every specific ride and the 705 do great at all the stuff I've asked of them.
