Golf

Couple of guys are playing golf and catch up to a couple women in the fairway in front of them. One guy turns and says "ok, are you gonna go tell em to let us play through or should I?"

Guy #2 says "sure, I'll go tell em."

He starts walking forward, gets about halfway to the women, then turns around and walks quickly back.

Guy #1 goes "what's the problem?"

Guy#2: "I can't go talk to them. One's my wife and the other one's my girlfriend!"

Guy#1: "ok fine, I'll go."

He gets halfway to the women, then also turns around and comes back.

Guy#2: "what's the matter?"

Guy#1: "Same thing!"

A man won a golf trip to an exotic location. The night before his first round he met a beautiful woman, they could not communicate with words due to the language barrier, but the chemistry was immediate and they went back to his hotel room togehter. He noticed during their night of passion she kept saying the same thing...."pushada, pushada", he figured he was making her happy and this was her way of telling him in her native tongue. The next day he woke up to find her gone and he was late for his first tee time, so he jumped in the shower and ran to the golf course. No time to warm up, he meets his 4some of locals on the first tee and proptly hits a massive slice over the trees and onto the fairway of the adjoining hole. Immediately one of the locals yells "Pushada!". The man quickly asks, "what does that actually mean", the local replies, "nice stroke, wrong hole'.....ta-da-da....

Must be that time of year :D

Sooooo, my company has a Golf "Club" that I decided to join. I'm missing this first weekend tomorrow in Manteca which is probably a good thing since I haven't swung a club in a while and haven't played an actual game in even longer. Most of my time's spent at the driving range.

Couple of questions. I'm a bogey+ self taught golfer. Should I get a lesson after playing for 30 years off and on?

Next, I have a set of Ping Eye 2 Orange Dot's that are pretty old but still nice and they seem to fit me well. Should I invest in newish clubs or stick with what I'm used to?

Per Ping, I'm way too tall for Orange Dot's at 6'1"

Orange Dot
2.25° flat 4'10½" to 5'6" 30½" to 31¾"

And lastly, I need balls. :twofinger Golf balls. Does it matter if I buy "used" or should I spend money on new ones that I'll lose anyway. Some companies call them AAAA, others call them Near-Mint on eBay.

kthxbye:teeth

Worth it to get a solid set of clubs that fit you properly. THEN get lessons - you'll need to relearn your swing. Balls...eh, wouldn't worry about that too much. I'm a fan of the Dunlop Titaniums, but they're hard to find these days - discontinued. Titleist Pro V1s seem to be the newer version of that. Then again I don't really lose balls very often so I'm still playing with the same Nikes and Titleists and shit that have been in my bag for 10 years or so. I don't buy balls. Wouldn't worry about it much, just hit whatever you have till your game is sub-bogey and it'll actually make more of a difference.

Also a decent set will only run you maybe $300 these days. Tons of options. I like my Callaway irons but really getting them fit to you is what you need - for 6'1" probably 1" longer shafts (and get stiffer shafts!) and a couple degrees more upright on the club head.

$300? I looked up my irons and they go for $225 used :wtf but I'll look around.

I also read that I can have my lean angle :)laughing) changed on the clubs. I'm looking for somewhere around RWC to bring them. I'm so used to them I'm almost afraid of switching.

Heh, got 18 Titanium Wilson's on Amazon for 10 bucks. Then looked in my bag and found about 10 good ones. (that would last me 18 holes I hope ;))

My neighbor saw me messing with my clubs yesterday and offered to take me out. Apparently there's 3 golfers within chipping range of my house :teeth

Thanks bro :thumbup

It's a bit of a drive, but the golf mart in San Bruno should be able to get you setup pretty well. Massive store, tons of selection, indoor driving range where they can track your swing with cameras and radar and determine length and flex for you and shit. Not sure if he's still there but a few years back there was a much older gentleman managing the back range and such, retired Marine, who gave me a generous military discount on my clubs. At the time they were listed at $850+, he dropped it to $550 and threw in an extra sand wedge worth $120. Had a great time just sitting and chatting with him in the store for a while before I got around to even checking out and that's when he threw in the deal and stuff.

There's a Golfsmith right there in San Carlos/RWC where the Best Buy is next to 101. They've also got the indoor range, cameras, club fitting, and the whole nine. The recently remodeled Golfsmith in Santa Clara is ridiculous if you feel like seeing just how big those stores can get.

Derrrr, oh yeah. I see it every time I go to REI. :loco

Thx mang,

:laughing Completely forgot about that one but yeah they have a pretty good selection too. Never bought anything or did much more than a cursory look around though so I can't speak to their prices.

I didn’t even know there was a golf thread. I haven’t played much in the last couple years but was gonna get back into it as the better weather returns. I’ll have to remember to post.

I spent 4 months playing desert golf, walking 18, 6 days a week.
Way more frustrating than "green" golf.
