Give blood!

Hey folks...as someone who is related to four people who are active or retired nurses, I'm passing along a request for peeps to give blood. There is a critical shortage because blood drives, which normally require gathering and/or close proximity, have been reduced due to Covid.

I'm signed up to give blood again on New Year's Eve in the afternoon with Red Cross. You get a free antibody test for Covid (and juice and snacks)! I'm AB negative, so I've been requested to give plasma instead of whole blood, which is a little less rough recovery-wise. Whatever you can do helps. It's free...just set aside an hour or so of your day, bring a book, drink plenty of fluid before-hand!

If you have any questions, I can try to answer them here, but the Red Cross website has great info as well. My mother (who is 73, and not retired so that she can help out during Covid) and one of my sisters are both registered nurses trying to save some lives. Help 'em out!

Both my sisters are AB- as well!

Thanks for signing up! Might be a ways out before you can donate. They can only take so many people at a time and some locations are preferable to others, so poke around. If you haven't given before, might want to have some company to drive you home. Dudes often seem to give too fast and get fainty. I barely make the weight cut-off, so I'm often a little dizzy after a whole blood donation.

i was expecting a hockey thread about how the sharks are again going to get really close to being a good team but ultimately fail in the superbowel or whatever they try to win

The blood gets flown where ever it's needed. :thumbup

There are shirts out there that say "Give Blood (play hockey) or (play rugby) etc. :laughing

This is a noble undertaking.

C'mon Eldirty. Roll up that sleeve. We can have a race to see who fills the bag up first.

The Stanford Bloodmobile will be in my neck of the woods this Saturday. I set up an appointment a few weeks ago.

Red Cross, Butch. They have a phone app too where you can see where your blood goes. You get your covid results there, etc.

Weirdest thing, I'm fine after whole blood but a platelet donation (which I thought was supposed to be easier on the body since they put the rest back) wipes me out for the day.

I will inquire and see if I am allowed. Typically they get mad when I ask for a Sampler Flight...

O+ here, universal donor. I like to give blood because it's important but I wish it wasn't to the Red Cross. A bunch of crooks.
