Gearing up

How long does it take for you to gear up?
Went for a ride this am and after watching my go pro It took me 20 mins to put on gear and get ready: UA base layer (cold gear), put on my riding pants, then boots. I checked tire pressure, then put on my jacket, helmet gloves and clip my airbag vest . Not even 3 houses down, I realized I forgot my earplugs. Then had to pull over undo gloves, helmet, unclip vest to put in earplugs that’s like 20 mins.

I don’t have an Air Vest, but it takes me about 5 mins to change in to my gear which includes Boots, pants, vest, jacket, Helmet and gloves. I usually do all maintenance on the bike the night before.

Getting ready to ride is like foreplay, it takes as long as it takes. Best not to time it or rush it.

Hmm, good idea to think about it like foreplay. Gotta preheat the oven before you cook. Also, good idea to check the night before. I usually check weekly or if I’m in the garage doing laundry or working out I will check tire pressure.

5 minutes sounds about right for me for my normal gear. Maybe 10 if i'm wearing the leather suit.

Takes 5 mins for me. Heated vest with tech air 5 and my one piece klim suit. Once the suit is on everything else is quick zip up and then plugs and helmet connect my self with the bike for the heated vest and I'm good to go

Too long.

Over the course of a coast-to-coast--and back--trip, got my the sequence of gearing up wrong any number of times. Seemed every restart, something was out-of-order and invariably, a stop for adjustment was needed.

Helmet strap, ear plugs, sunglasses, phone in cradle, usb cable, solar charger, heated gear connections (jacket, gloves, controller, plug to battery), jacket/pants zippers, pockets, saddle bag tops, seat bag pockets, tank bag secured, laptop backpack bungees...

Think I'll do it all again this summer.

It probably takes me ten minutes to gear up for cold weather riding. In warm weather if I'm just running to the store or something, maybe three minutes.

Typical steps for cold weather:
  • Put on overpants
  • Put on boots
  • Put on jacket
  • Grab "Buff" to go around my neck
  • Put in earplugs
  • Put on helmet
  • Put on glasses
  • Put on gloves
  • Take gloves back off to get the key out of my pocket :)
  • Put gloves back on
  • Ride away

Depends what the ride is for... Anywhere from 2 minutes, to 10 minutes. Long trips are a series of 5 to 10 minute checks and loading/unloading luggage until I get a comfortable balance going. Always prep the bike the night before, just to make sure the day of departure is loading and gearing up.

5-10 mins for me. Kinda a hassle when just going to the store real quick. But then again it would be more of a hassle if I ended up in he hospital for not gearing up

Like 30s to put on boots and 45s to put on my 1-piece Aerostich. Maybe 30s for earplugs and helmet, or a bit more if I’m wearing glasses instead of contacts. So about 1.5-2 min all-in.

It takes a little longer after finding a dead scorpion in your boots..

This way...That way...
How long does it take for you to gear up?
...

I'm a big believer in never being in a hurry pre-ride. Riding is something I *want* to do. It isn't something I *have* to do. I want to protect myself, sure. But I also want to protect my enjoyment of the sport.

I've posted several times, motorcycling, private aviation, ocean sailing, these motion sports are unforgiving of stupid mistakes.

If my mind is busy dealing with stress, if I'm in a rush... I take the car.

Gearing up for what?
Romping with the boys on a Sunday?
Commuting?
Going on a multi-state 10 day tour?
Running around the corner for a fuel top off?

It used to take me 2 minutes, but now that I'm old, retired and don't have to rush, it's about 10 minutes.

During the Cold months, I waste a lot of time deciding what to wear. I'm thinking about this or that and it's just sad, really. :rofl

Unless i'm just running a few blocks away, I typically ATGATT, in riding jeans and textile jacket at minimum, but typically in my full 2-piece suit. If it's hot, it's up to a 30 min endeavor as I fight against the sweat. Otherwise it's as "fast" as 5-10min.
