Fire Lookouts?

Now flyin' solo...
Some cool stuff in this thread. The only fire lookouts I've been to have been up north by Lake Shasta, looks like I have a few new ride destinations to sort out. Thanks to all for sharing the links/info!

Hi fellow DR rider. As a local to the Pine Mt., Lake Pillsbury, Mendo National Forest area I can Highly recommend it. I've been close to the Pine Mt. lookout and have heard it is pretty nice. You need to obtain key from USFS to get in last bit. There is a lot of nice ohv single track in the immediate vicinity, good in most weather. Also within a couple hrs riding are two peaks with amazing views. Hull Mt., about an hour's easy ride, used to have a lookout on it, but it burned down (kind of ironic), but now you get a 360 degree view of Pillsbury and the forest. Sanhedrin, also close, has an even better view, including the Ukiah Valley and Clear Lake. These mountains go up to about 8000', so snow can be a factor. Gas is available at Soda Creek, which is on the way to either of these places from Pine Mt. The pot harvest is winding down and we've had some pretty good rain, so now would be a pretty good time to go. You could do a loop from Stoneyford a la Sheetiron. Almost endless possibilities. If you decide to ride up here I'd be happy to share more local info.

Tonight we ride
My favorite is Robbs Hut, in the Eldorado National Forest up Ice House Road...I generally cross-country ski in in the winter though, not sure how the riding is up there.

But last I checked they'd raised the rental price to $65 a night. For a frickin' hut in the middle of nowhere and an outhouse. :| Beautiful in the winter, though.

Obliterates Stereotypes
There's a few just outside of Quincy, north of and near Lake Davis.

The route depicted here hits two towers (yeah, yeah, I made the Lord of the Rings joke while on the ride...)

Tower 1 as we called it

Tower 2 has a nice view of Lake Davis.

There are more towers in the area, but we didn't have time as the ride left around 9:45 and had to be back by 3pm.
